I'm for nuking North Korea. You want to build missiles, play with the big boys, and make threats? Time to get punched in the mouth.

Dude, no.

China has treaties with North Korea that state they will retaliate to any attack on their soil.  Any attack on them would result in billions of casualties.  It's the ultimate nightmare scenario.

That article basically states China wouldn't do shtein because farg NK

I never did answer the question, "who is worse, a demagoge, or an idealogue?" when we were facing Trump or Cruz.    THe shiftless huckster who follows whatever whim of the masses he thinks will put and keep him in power is a dangerous man, but I'm not so sure he's more dangerous than the zealot with an axe to grind and a plan to get it done.  So far, I'm breathing a sigh of relief in some ways.  Cruz would have gotten Gorsuch, so that's a wash.  But he also would have gotten health care, because he knows how shtein works and plays the game.  What I'm still unsure about however regards foreign policy..namely, I think Cruz, despite being a cheif mullah in the American Taliban, would not rush (or bumble) into WWIII, whereas as President Baby Hands might nuke North Korea just to see the pretty lights.

The best case scenario is putting a hit on K3.

That would at least de-escalate things and the vaccuum caused may put a puppet of the chinese in there that would be a little easier to manipulate. China gets to keep, "North Korea" and prevent a unified Korean penninsula, and in exchange, they de-nuclearize the penninsula and get the US out of Korea.

It might be what it takes to 'de-nuclearize' north korea and at the same time prevent more than 1-casualty (or two). The person killing K3 would probably have off him/herself.

All current options are pretty bad long term. Eventually, North Korea will have the capability to strike the US. So, time is running out. The THAAD deployment "should have" forced China and Russia to tighten the screws on K3, but maybe its proving that they don't have control over him.

The THAAD move was a good move. The more THAAD systems deployed in the area, the more agitated China will be and maybe it might get them to do something, but this has been going on since the late 90's so I'm not holding my breath.

I'm not a big proponent of American exceptionalism or that the USA should have a monopoly on nuclear arms or for first strike deployment, but a legit WMD in the hands of an admitted irrational state actor is problematic to say the least.  I don't know what to do about it at this point but I wish the powers that be would've decided to resolve this rather than Iraq 15 years ago.

Trump?

Rome

Someone asked Admiral Scott Swift if they'd nuke China if Trump issued the order, and he replied in the affirmative.

Really?  So we're really at the point where we'd preemptively attack a sovereign nation with weapons of mass destruction if a lunatic sitting in the White House decided it would be a neat idea?  How about instead you show some moral farging courage and tell said lunatic to go farg himself?

You do know that there will likely never be a senior ranking member in the armed forces who would publicly state that he/she would willfully disobey an order from the Commander in Chief.  It doesn't matter how ridiculous the question is...ask him if he'd rape a baby if Trump told him to and the answer would still be yes. Doesn't mean he would actually do it, but he'd never question that authority anywhere but behind closed doors. Hopefully this dude wouldn't dream of launching if told too.

Rome

How is the order to slaughter of millions of innocent human beings anything less than unlawful?

Sgt PSN

It has nothing to do with lawful or unlawful and everything to do with Generals and Admirals not publicly disobeying the President...or saying that they would disobey the President, as that sets a terrible precident that would echo down through the ranks.  And aside from the bad optics of saying no publicly, there's also the matter of it literally being illegal for people in the military to publicly protest the gov't and/or gov't officials.
