If a motherfarger is willing to die for our corporate aspirations, regardless of how noble said motherfarger's reasoning is, we should pay for her to get a fleshpop.

If somebody wants to talk about the issue of cost, save money by not starting wars.

wouldnt true patriots rather pay for trans surgery for someone who is joining the military to protect the country than pay for someone who is only joining to get free college

and to your point about military spending which is a great one i saw yesterday that the amount of money spent on transgender medical care is somewhere around .075% of the military budget or approx 4 million dollars total...viagara alone costs the military over 40 million

Not that I am a whiz at math or anything, but wouldn't 0.075% of $598 billion be closer to $45 million?

it was a % of the military's health care budget not the overall budget

Call me skeptical, but I seriously doubt that if the estimates are true of having roughly 5,000 current trans in the military that $4 million is accurate.  That comes out to $800 a person.  I spend that on random checkups.

Is there a limit?  Gender reassignment can run as high as $50k.  Not including the hormone treatments needed afterwards.

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

The RAND Corporation estimated in 2016 that there were between 1,320 and 6,630 transgender people serving.

I'm not really concerned about cost all that much....not even sure why I mentioned it in my post.  My questions pretty much revolve about how the entire gender reassignment process works and how long it takes.  I really have no idea, but I imagine it's a lengthy process.  So it's only fair to wonder how effective an individual can be while going through this process.  Can he/she still perform all of the physical requirements of the job while undergoing gender reassignment?  What are the mental impacts during the proceedure and how might it impact someone's ability to do his/her job?  Can someone still deploy while undergoing this transition?  If not, how long does he/she need to be in a limited duty status?

I look at it like this - a 1st enlistment is 8 total years, usually split in half with 4 years on active duty and 4 years in the reserves (with no actual duty requirements).  Focusing strictly on the 4 years of active duty, the first 6-12 months of that are spend in boot camp/basic training and then onto job training before being placed in an operational unit.  There is a 0% chance that anyone should or would be allowed to undergo gender reassignment during this initial training period.  So this leaves 3 - 3.5 years remaining on their enlistment that an individual would spend in the operational fleet.  So out of that, how much time would the individual spend in a limited duty status?  6 months?  1 year?  2 years?  Exactly what kinds of limitations would be placed on an individual while undergoing this transition?

These are all questions I honestly don't know the answer to, so I'm not asking them in an argumentative way, I'm just trying to learn more about it.  When a female soldier gets pregnant, she gets placed in a limited duty status for the duration of her pregnancy and I believe is then given an additional 6 months after delivery to basically get her body back into shape and resume meeting all standards again.  But she is still required to show up to work every day and do her job until a doc says otherwise.  So I would definitely say that if gender reassignment can be fully completed within a similar timeframe and as long as the individual is able to show up to work every day while undergoing this process, then there's really no logical reason deny people from having gender reassignment while they are currently serving.  I'd be willing to bet that more female troops get knocked up every year than the amount of people wanting gender reassignment, so if the argument is that transgendered people wouldn't be deployable during their transition, then it's a pretty weak argument considering that females can spend about 16 months (nearly 50%) of their time in a limited duty/non-deployable status after jesus puts a baby in them.
