Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Quote"The people who receive the disproportionate share of government spending are not big-government lovers. They are Republicans. They are senior citizens. They are white men with high school degrees. As Bill Galston of the Brookings Institution has noted, the people who have benefited from the entitlements explosion are middle-class workers, more so than the dependent poor.

Romney's comments also reveal that he has lost any sense of the social compact. In 1987, during Ronald Reagan's second term, 62 percent of Republicans believed that the government has a responsibility to help those who can't help themselves. Now, according to the Pew Research Center, only 40 percent of Republicans believe that.

The Republican Party, and apparently Mitt Romney, too, has shifted over toward a much more hyperindividualistic and atomistic social view — from the Reaganesque language of common citizenship to the libertarian language of makers and takers. There's no way the country will trust the Republican Party to reform the welfare state if that party doesn't have a basic commitment to provide a safety net for those who suffer for no fault of their own."

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

QuoteBy stating this fundamental truth, albeit off the record, Romney has done a service for which he should be praised not excoriated. It all boils down to what John Kennedy said: There are those who ask what their country can do for you, and those who ask what you can do for your country.

It's funny Dick wrote that seeing how it seems the uber-rich don't feel the need to do more for their country by paying their fair share in taxes.

I don't delve into this nonsense, mostly because it's nonsense. Blind party loyalty is stupid along the same lines as homer fans are stupid. That said, I'm consistently amazed at what we have to choose from. Every election I'm pretty incredulous that I'm seeing the best of the best to lead the country. But, seriously, these are our choices? Really?

to be fair at this point i think romneys candidacy is just a prank

My favorite part of this phoney baloney statistic is that Republican-created tax cuts/credits are what leads to the majority of the zero-income-tax bunch. farging astounding level of hypocrisy that.
