I love Clint Eastwood, he's probably one of my top 3 favorite actors of all time. But that speech was brutal. He should have went the Clint angle and not the comedy angle. He can be funny but it's always unintentional and off color humor. Talking to an empty chair? That's the early signs of dementia. Haven't watched the Romney speech yet but I can only imagine it was awful. Tried my best to make it through the Ryan speech but couldn't.

That's the new Aaron Sorkin (sp?) show, right?  Whatever happened to Republicans like this character, anyway?  They died off?

Yes, the show is called Newsroom. It's pretty money.

I genuinely believe those types republicans still exist, they are just marginalized by their own party. While I still don't believe I would vote for one, at least they would make an attempt to reach across the isle. The new Republican stance is basically to not talk to anyone form the other side, which oh, shocker, is the only way anything has ever gotten done in this country.

I didn't listen to Romney's speech but what I heard in news reports was pretty well delivered.

Yeah he did a decent job of humanizing himself (still came off a little robotish/strained), but it didn't have a lot of policy substance to it.

And his awful joke about the environment was just face palm inducing..

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

I dont even know if that comment was more about the environment as it was more about Obama and his Martin Luther King wordy miracle making speeches. Romney just wanted to be straight to the point. That's at least how I took that.

phattymatty

yeah i actually think romney did pretty much as well as he could. no specifics about any of the changes he wants to make but the little video of his family was actually pretty good.

he ended very dark in my opinion though, talking about war with iran, blah blah. didn't seem the time since he talked no policy anywhere else.  and i'm not sure the environment thing was a joke. he thinks the weather is up to god. or joe smith.

he had the mouth breathers going crazy though, the whole place loved it.

That's how I took it, and I thought Romney delivered the line well.  He left a long pause after telling the crowd that Obama had promised "to slow the rising of the oceans," to let the grandiosity of the claim sink in, said something else about Obama promising to save the world, and then landed his, "I promise to help you and your family" line.  It was effective.

The other very effective line was the one about "'f the most excited you were for President Obama was the day you voted for him, then don't you think it's time to move on,' argument.

I didn't expect him to be awful, but I admit that he did better than I thought he would.

I tried to make it through the Ryan/Romney speeches but I just couldn't. The Eastwood speech about lawyers was a bit ironic since Romney graduated from Harvard Law.

This guy had it right:
