I have a really awful feeling about this election.

If Romney or Newt get in there it's going to be beyond horrendous for working people and the poor.  People are going to vote against their own interests because they're incredibly stupid, but still, I don't think anyone who isn't filthy rich has any idea how badly they'd be screwing themselves by voting Pub.

newt has no chance at the nom...really no one but romey does...

Newt totally has a chance because the conservative establishment absolutely despises Romney. In fact, I commend Romney on the fact that he has accepted that the far right doesn't like him and is trying to win the nomination without even engaging them. Now, he has moved his policies to the right, obviously, but he isn't meeting with the conservative base to try and woo them. They're basically saying 'anyone but Romney' and he's basically saying 'fine, farg off, I'll win this without you and then owe you nothing when I'm president'. Anyway, if the base can rally around a single alternative, like Newt, that person could totally win the nomination. Hasn't happened yet, but as soon as Perry drops out, those votes are likely to go to Newt/Santorum. So yeah, this thing isn't over.

At this point I don't think any of this group of Reps have a chance of beating Obama. Romney doesn't inspire the base and is a Mormon. Santorum is a farging lunatic who absolutely will not attract votes from the center. Newt has an unreal amount of baggage. I mean he was fined for ethics violations and booted out of the House Leadership by his own party. Three marriages. He's a mess, BUT he is a policy wonk who articulates his ideas exceptionally well and in a debate, which matters during the Presidential race, he will hold his own and then some. I think Romney would garner more votes than Newt in the general election, but Newt would be the far more interesting candidate.

the base hates romney but everyone hates newt

trust me newt has zero chance to be the nom

id put the overall odds at romney 97% field 3%....and newt probably holds about 1.5% chance amongst the field

I'd say it's more like 75% Romney 25% field. The Republican base is just exceptional at getting what they want. They're swimming upstream by trying to fight Romney, but their track record is pretty farging incredible.

i agree the base is very powerful but i also think in the end they will be prgamatic and go with the guy who can get them the white house and then let the far right/tea party coalition in congress run shtein

its easy to be this stubborn about romney in january and make a stand now...that wont be the case in the spring and summer tho

romney is the guy

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

small businesses failing?  lol

anyone bother to ask what "small business" means when these scumbuckets throw the term around?  500 employees or less.

Apparently, if you have 485 employees, you've got a "small business."

The inundation of political ads has begun in earnest here already.  It's nice to know that Santorum stands for faith, family & freedom because I would have never in a million years guessed that.

he also stands for repressing your homosexuality. is that in the ad?
