Considering how farged up this country is in terms of race relations, treatment of women and minorities, bigotry & religious zealotry, I can't believe anyone with half a brain would actively refer to themselves as a social conservative.

Things most definitely aren't alright in this country so siding with those who want to keep things as they are is really ridiculous in my opinion.

In other words how can't you be a social liberal?  I can certainly see being fiscally conservative but socially conservative?  No.

i highly doubt that...i think youre saying that no one on this board is a racist or a bigot...and that is probably (and hopefully) true

but a ton of people who are religious are social conservatives and im sure there are people on this board for prayer in school...who are anti abortion...against same sex marriage and/or adoption...against gun control...stem cell research...entitlements...affirmative action....and so on...

There is a difference between having an opinion on some things and thinking they should be part of government.  Plus, and this might come as a shocker, there are people that are anti-abortion and for gun control, or vice versa.  Try to get your party line liberal vibe around that.

Nice try on sneaking entitlements and affirmative action in there, champ, but those are as much fiscal as social.

affirmative action is certainly not a fiscal issue....entitlements could be depending on how you look at them....one person may be against it because "the govt is taking my money to pay for them" while someone else might be against them because "all they do is pay for lazy blacks"...either way in general most social conservatives would be against both

It's hilarious that you discount the idea that some people want the government to farg with their lives less in every way.  You want them basically telling you when you can take a shtein and trust them implicitly to make wise decisions with your tax dollars.

Entitlements are the worst example you could have used.  Which is more responsible, ignoring than Social Security is going bankrupt and continuing the status quo, or fixing the problem before it hits?  I'll give you a hint: it's too late for the latter option now anyway, and that's because of cold hard dollars.

I just thought I'd entertain myself by seeing where I fit into this post...

I don't care if or where people pray. Requiring it in school is so laughably illegal that I can't believe it's even up for discussion.

Quotewho are anti abortion...
I am pro-abortion. Very pro-abortion.

Quoteagainst same sex marriage and/or adoption...
Marriage I don't care about. If they're dumb enough to lock themselves into one person they should get the same legal benefits as the rest of us. Adoption I do care about and gay couples should be able to adopt like everyone else.

Quoteagainst gun control...
I'm against gun control. It's my most 'conservative' point of view. More guns. Required education about guns.

Quotestem cell research...
I'm banking on stem cell research to provide me with new organs. So I'm very much in favor of stem cell research.

Quoteentitlements...
This is too vague. There are things that people are constitutionally entitled too. Free speech, assembly, equality between men, life, liberty, the right to bear arms, etc, etc. Entitlements beyond that are largely superfluous. Whatever.

Quoteaffirmative action...
Hahahahahahah. No. A ham-fisted and dangerous solution to a real problem.

all i was saying is that there are definitely social conservatives on this board

I'm banking on stem cell research to provide me with a new liver. So I'm very much in favor of stem cell research.

I wish my liver was the only organ I've done damage to, but yeah, that's definitely the major concern.

Rome

If stem cell research could make your dick bigger, you can bet every white bread limpdick politician in Washington would be behind it.

PoopyfaceMcGee

They don't care how big their penis is as long as they can pay/find someone to suck it.

Seabiscuit36

I'm with RJS on stem cell research, i want to grow a new liver to use every 10 years.

Prayer shouldnt be in school, unless you attend a private school(catholic, christian, whatever)

Abortion, i have no idea what's up with the fruitloops against it.  I personally yell and throw stuff out of my car every time i pass the womens clinic with the protestors.  Usually a hanger.

Gun control:  the laws to get legal weapons are very good for MD.  It takes a lot of work, the problem is how quicky you can skirt the law by going the illegal route.  If your weapon was purchased illegally, i endorse large fines and community service, no need to lock people up if they did not use the weapons in a murder or robbery and just got caught with a hot piece

Shades of gray.

I'm a gun nut.  I'm also anti-death penalty because I don't believe it's the State's right to take one of its citizen's life.  I'm also a pro-choice advocate who's anti-abortion.  I think abortions are an abomination but it's not up to me to decide whether another human being should carry a child to term.  It's a woman's right to choose even if I think that choice is wrong.

See, that's the problem with social conservatives.  They think they have the right do decide what's best for others whereas I believe its up to everyone to decide their own course.  There has to be laws but at the same time there has to be common sense in how those laws are applied.  If I want to snort a bag of blow, that's my business.  If I want to drink a case of beer and then get behind the wheel of a car, then that becomes society's business.

I'll clarify my stance on gun control. I am against gun bans. I'm against banning ANY sort of firearm. I do think that there should be governmental checks in place so that criminals can't legally purchase them, but the purpose of the right to bear arms was so the people can portect themselves against a government that has overstepped its bounds and gun laws work in direct opposition to that.

Gun Bans make no sense.  I just want people who skirt the current system to pay large financial price, and be made to participate in community service if they get caught with an unregistered weapon.
