is rush really getting serious consideration or is this just some stupid internet rumor?  after pimping bush for 8 years, the repubs have to know that they are damaged goods and that rush is probably the last person who should be the face of their party.  they might as well go with palin.  she's just as looney but at least she's much nice to look at.

The Repubicans could trend one of two ways:

1.  A moderate with some kind of proven track record.  Powell is probably too old by 2012, and I can't imagine Powell running against Obama in 2008.  Someone, though, with some appeal to both parties.

2.  A full swing towards the right, trying to make some sort of contrast between the Republicans and Obama.

Personally, I believe that Obama would have to be a total trainwreck of a president for the Republicans to have any shot in 2008, which I don't see happening at this point.  Probably, some filler candidate (Palin?) may be the tethered goat to try to set up a more realistic candidacy in 2012.

I can't imagine Powell running against Obama in 2008 either. Besides 2008 being done, I don't think the 'pubs consider Powell and republican anymore

cheney actually said hed rather have rush in the gop than colin powell

A lot of republicans, if not all, feel that way. They were not impressed with Powells support of Obama

of course...i know pubs feel that way...thats why the party is quickly becoming a regional entity based in rural areas of mississippi and alabama

i was more mentioning it because i cant believe cheney actually publically said it

A whole lot of people were saying the same thing about the Dems not even 24 months ago.  Point is, the pendulum swings both ways.

ice grillin you

it swings both ways because when a party realizes its doing something wrong it normally changes...i dont know that the current pubs are capable of change

the pendulum does swing, but that's some revisionist history right there.  the republican party is in the kind of trouble the likes of which haven't been seen in this country in a very long time.  Under Reagan, under Newt, under Bush....all unhappy times for Dems...the democratic party was nowhere near as marginalized and regional as the Republicans are now.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

We need a valid opposition party to whomever is running things. Unfortunatly GOP arguments are shallow and false. If they want to reinvent the party they need some concrete argumements. Unfortunatly they're now all buying their own propoganda and no one even knows what the real issues are right now.
Obama's tax adjustment is socialist? Reagan approved increasing taxes on the upper tax brackets in reaction to the savings and loan scandel.
Message? Only adjust the brackets when it's our idea.

Lincold taxed anyone making more than 10,000 at the start of the civil war. Man what a socialist.

GOP needs some real arguments... This reality TV crap where their mothers and kids are always on the news registering opinions needs to stop too! I don't give a flying farg what Megan McCain or Lesbian daugher Cheney think about jack squat...

Not this one. Colin Powell is a great American and it's a goddamn shame the best man for the job of president in the Republican party doesn't want any part of it.

Fargin' Rush Limbaugh............Cheney needs to just STFU.

Geowhizzer

If the Republicans actually even seriously consider Limbaugh for a presidential ticket, they are indeed dead as a party.
