Concrete Field is definitely the best place to find exercise advise.  I mean, when I first started posting here I was 175 pounds and had 6% body fat.  Now I'm 215, I have heart trouble as well as a curious compulsion to eat bacon at every meal.

Who knew?

rjs246

I eat bacon 6 times a day and I'm losing weight. Then again, I rule, so it isn't really a fair comparison.

I run and lift on the same days too...it works for me.

I'm pretty sure that taking workout/diet advice from a 19 year old doesn't make a lick of sense. Anything and everything you do when you're that age gets you into shape/builds muscle. Anyone who's fat at 19 isn't trying.

Considering I've done the same weight lifting/training/agility program on and off for the last 3 years, yeah I'd say I know what I'm talking about. Especially considering I've put on 8 pounds of (mostly) muscle in the last 4 months since I got on it again. And that's without doing squats. Which is the best way to put on weight if you're trying to gain.

Romey, 172 at 5'9 isn't scrawny in the least bit. A lot kids my age and height are weighing at 160, some even down  in the 145-150 range. They need to get on RJS' bacon diet. And weight lifting actually tears the fibers and breaks down muslce, it's the repairing process that actually builds the muscle bigger and stronger afterwords.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

You and your high school coach still play hide-the-potato with each other when you're in town for homecoming, don't you?

I work for a living and eat like a man.  6'2" 205 and doing fine.

Usual daily diet starting w/the first meal with about 3 hour increments of each other:

1. Bowl of frosted mini-wheats/or raisin bran w/non-fat milk

2. Turkey sandwich w/cheese, mustard, light light-mayo & some type of 10 to 12 grain bread or tuna sandwich

3. rarely oatmeal...but usually another bowl of cereal...raisin bran, target bran cinamond toast crunch or mini-wheats

4. dinner (pasta, or some meat/or chicken ...nothing too heavy)....

5. another bowl of cereal before I sleep.

( I know I'm probably vitamin deficient in some areas...for some reason I don't take in that much chicken/fish or meat)....

I will mix in a frozen burrito and lean cuisines meals...but I always make sure to have a sandwich daily. I love sandwiches.

I've been taking fish oil supplements w/Omega 3's. Everyone once in a while I'll take a multi-vitamin

Workout Routine:

I was playing basketball 2 to 3 times a week and I burned off about 12lbs....I'm down to 183. I've since joined a basketball league and am playing 2 times a week...I'd play more but I have shin problems.

I'll play tennis and raquetball as well. I hate running...but I'll run around the rose bowl (3 miles around...I'm up to a mile and a half!)...like I said I hate running.

I've been recently going to the gym again...I do curls and squats and shoulders with weights everything else is just body weight, pull-ups, dips, push ups, abs, back extensions and jump roping.

I'm trying to prevent having a 60 year old body and heart by the time I hit 40...its either now or never.

Like I said, I was in the mid to low 190's at the beginning of the year.

Trick is to turn up your metabolism to burn off the weight. Eat 5 to 7 times a day...and its like feeding coal to a steam engine...just enough to keep it going....put too much and the shtein won't burn that fast....couple that with exercising and eating the right foods...your body and your heart will be thanking you.

You also have to sleep well...I sleep late...and average around 5 hours of sleep a day...that's no good.

The older you are...the extra you have to train in order to maintain your shape.

Well, that would explain it for me.

At 19 your body still has an influx of hormones aka testosterone and a bit of growth hormone - not to mention your metabolism should be throught the roof. Once you're 25 your body will start to slow down, by the time you're 30 if you don't have a good diet along with some exercise you'll pack on pounds fast. And in case you're thinking to yourself "I'm different"...you're not.
