whoa...Carter just scored his 2nd goal of the game with 1:00 left....2-1 Flyers  :o

That 3rd period was some entertaining hockey.  :yay

1st game I watched from start to finish in quite a while.
it was (dare I say) playoff-caliber fast.  no stoppages and thankfully no lame-ass penalties.

i laughed the other day when sportscenter ran that piece about all the things that have happened in the world since the flyers last won at home

Flyers lose in OT/shootout - no chance vs. the Lightning. They need to do away with the shootouts, it was a interesting concept but its proven to be really dumb.

shootouts are fine as they eliminate the awful tie...the thing they really need to get rid of is the shootout loss column...that is gay

wins and losses
losses and wins

They should extend OT to 10 minutes and keep the tie. I never had a problem with getting a point for a tie.

SunMo

a tie is awful, especially for someone paying $90 to go to a game.  i would rather see my team lose in a shootout than watch them tie.

if there is anything positive for this team, it's that their effort has been good since the all-star break, they are mostly healthy and playing a little better while giving full effort for the whole game.
I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

Rome

As a traditionalist, I think shootouts are a farce.

The game should be settled on the ice in regular play, not in some made-for-television reality show melodrama.

I was on record as being against the shootout from the beginning.  It would be like playing 10 innings of baseball, then deciding the winner by having a home run derby.  To me, it cheapens the game.

Don't want a tie?  Play until there's a winner - just like in the playoffs.

Good analogy.
I wouldn't mind 4 on 4 (which is usually exciting in OT) until there's a winner. Only problem is you'd have to cut it off at some point...OT in Hockey can go on forever.

i believe the reason they havent done away with the single point value is because forever hockey has been a two-one-zero point system...were they to go to wins and losses there really wouldnt be a need for a point system at all...they would go to wins-losses-games back that all sports use...i dont think the purists want that...to me tho theyve butchered the game so much in the last ten years what difference would it make at this point

carter has looked great lately pitkanan has stepped it up as well...the key is to find out how good these kids are...im really hoping carter proves hes got #1 center potential in him...i dont want him playing wing at all anymore...if they can slot carter at 1 and richards at 3 and joni as a #1 pairing defenseman they can start to build around those three this offseason

now they just need a young number one goalie....which is why they should have traded anyone and everyone for luongo when they had the chance

Nitty has proved what he can do if you have a good D in front of him.  I still think nitty has a lot of upside, he's won at very high levels, but with the D the flyers are putting out there, its no wonder why he went so long w/o a win.

the diference is there are way more overtimes in hockey than extra innings games in baseball...so you really cant compare the two...if hockey overtimes were as rare as extra inning baseball overtime basketball or football games theyed have no problem playing it out...but you cant be having games go to midnight every other day

nitty would be a great backup and a competant starter but he will never carry a team...he gives up an insane amount of soft goals...maybe even more than esche

He gives up less rebounds than Esche.  When he does give them up, his dmen need to move and not just stand there stationary in front of the net and allowing the other team to get easy chip in's.  I've watched nearly every game this year, Esche is Esche, to me hes ckeckmanek.  He makes a amazing save and gives up a mr softee, then goes thru a series of saves that makes him look like a Vezina contender.

I think we all have to realize we're never going to get a Broudur or a Roy.
