Comparing him to a 2nd round rookie riddled with injury isn't exactly a ringing endorsement.

I'm not sure that I've chimed in here, but I figured I'd let you all know that my level of excitement over this trade is completely disproportionate to Stallworth's actual level of talent. He's a good #2 but I'm friggin giddy about this trade. He's a huge upgrade over Pinkston, even when Pinkston is healthy, and he has more speed than any receiver I can remember on this team.

The thing that I like the most about this pickup, though, is that his presense should help Brown have a better year. In the long run, that's going to be just as important as anything Stallworth actually does.

Schlereth, guesting on Mike & Mike, just compared the Stallworth acquisition to the skins' trade for Santana Moss last year.  He said that Stallworth is young enough and talented enough that you could see him break out a la Moss for the Eagles this year.

Obviously, that's a best-case scenario IMO, but that would be nice.

i can make you even more happy about it...hes a even bigger upgrade over the guy hes really replacing....hank baskett

the eagle receivers were unbearably slow before this trade...they needed an athlete on the outside in the worst way...now they have a wr that the defense has to actually worry about...if stallworth gets no numbers he will still be worth the trade as it really helps reggie brown by taking pressure off him....now he has a legit nfl receiver on the other side...not someone they traded billy mcmullen for

and thats really all anyone needs to know about their wr's was that before this trade hank baskett was their #2!!!....obviously thats beyond pathetic...this trade is most important because it pushes scrubs like baskett/lewis/gaffney to the more tolerable 3 and 4 slots...

I think there's very little question at this point that it pushes Gaffney to the unemployment line.

Locks:
Brown
Stallworth
Baskett
Avant

Likely:
Lewis - Donovan still likes him, and he has some value as a #4 on a deep throw.  Change of pace from the likes of Avant and Baskett, who are more physical.
McCants - Has been excellent on special teams and has more value in the red zone than Gaffney.

Fringe:
Bloom (IR, probably) - Not ready to play football yet.
Pinkston (maybe also IR, maybe just cut) - Might never re-gain his speed again.
Gaffney - Failed to distinguish himself at all and lost his job to an undrafted rookie.

first time i could get on the board since this news broke, and at first i was happy but the more i think about it i'm leaning towards estatic...

I doubt he'll bother keeping up the charade any longer.

I don't think he meant the whole game. I was at the game & on the play he referenced, Pinkston did draw the coverage away from Lewis. I watched Pinkston the whole time & thought they were going to go deep to him, when the coverage pulled off once they saw Lewis running free.

agree completely, and yes its pretty sad that a rookie, an undrafted rookie could pick up the offense faster than a guy who has been in the league for a few years

If the team is looking to seriously compete for a SB THIS YEAR (which I'm not sure they are ready for) I'd honestly like to see Lewis get the boot, Baksett be the number 4 and Gaffney play the slot. I doubt seriously that that will happen since Andy loves his project players (Baskett) but experience in the slot would make me happier than watching some undrafted free agent cut his teeth out there. If they are gearing up for a run next year, let Baskett get experience.

I think you'll see Avant in the slot more than anyone.

i agree...i still have faith in gaffney and think it would be a mistake to cut him...id keep gaffney over baskett and/or lewis
