Remember him?

1999 STs MVP in Philadelphia

QuoteOur Falcons observers tell us veteran RS Allen Rossum could be on his way out of Atlanta. Rossum battled injuries most of last season and hasn't come close to returning to his Pro Bowl form of 2004. Complicating matters for Rossum is that rookie WR Adam Jennings has excelled in training camp returning punts and kicks and is also competing for the No. 3 WR job. RB DeAndra Cobb, drafted last year as Rossum's eventual successor, had a forgettable rookie year and is sidelined with a high ankle sprain. We hear it's only a matter of time before Cobb gets waived.

That little blurb is from PFW's "whispers" section. I also picked it up a few weeks ago in the AJC. Alan struggled last year as a PR and had his worst season since his rookie season as a PR. However he had very solid 2004-2005 season.

With Dexter Wynn not really cutting it as a 5th CB or as a PR and with Matt Ware going to S and Strickland not lighting it up would you bring him in of he's cut?

He'd be the 4th/5th CB and have a shot to be the PR. I would sign him with a quickness.

One thing to keep in mind is that he's recovering from an injury (knee, if I remember correctly) that he's still struggling a little bit with, but they're keeping on the hush-hush here in Atlanta.

If I were to bring him in at all... it'd be strictly for the PR game.  He still does that pretty well... but as a DB in any capacity, he's horrible... and has been for a few years now.

Yeah, the PR thing is my main concern. But even his CB play is better than Dextoast Wynn and maybe even Joselio Hanson.

I'd give him a looksee though - if cut.

I met Rossum at the Eagles Carnival many moons ago.  His handshake is weaker than Ron Powlus.

If he can still fly, then I'd take a look. His strength was his speed. If his knee is messed up, then he's useless.

Unlike Stephen Davis, eh Bunkley?

Stephen Davis isn't a speed back, nor is he a kick returner. So I don't see a connection there.

I just don't know what they do for a 5th CB if they even keep 5. And if they keep 4 it's Hanson or Strickland as the dime. Can JR Reed, a guy who never returned punts in his life until this year, the PR? And if he's not then it's probably Reno Mahe.

Obviously he'd have to be fully healthy but looking at the other options as far as the PR and bottom of the roster CBs go - I'd like to see him given a look.

MadMarchHare

If they decide to keep 9 DBs, wouldn't they most likely keep Ware, since he can (sort of) play both S and CB?
Anyone but Reid.

PhillyPhreak54

That's what I originally thought. But it appears that they are really down on Ware. He's the 6th CB and 5th safety

Rossum won fastest man at the pro bowl 2 years ago I believe. He's a great returner if his knee is in good shape.
