I don't actually. I just thought the image of a manatee swimming around picking out random thought balls was funny. Maybe South Park does still have something to offer...

Yes, it was the South Park creators' take on how "Family Guy" episodes are put together.

It's also how Bunkley's agent negotiates.

ice grillin you

the inquirer reports today that the hold up is still about years...eagles want 6 wichard wants 5

QuoteTEAMS USING SIX-YEAR DEALS BECAUSE THEY CAN

We're told that the pending contract disputes between the Dolphins and the Eagles and their respective first-round picks is a direct result of the recent CBA negotiations.  As part of the deal, contracts are now limited in length, with six years being the longest term for the first 16 picks in round one, five years the maximum for the next 16 picks, and four years for the rest of the class.

So because teams now can't cram five-year deals down the throats of second-round picks, we're told that some of the teams with the ability to insist on six-year deals are doing so simply because they can.

That's the thinking regarding the current positions taken by the Eagles and the Dolphins, even though in 2005 most if not all of the first-rounders below the top two picks got five-year deals.

And the problem is that, for players taken beneath the top five spots, it's generally not a good thing to be saddled with a six-year deal.   But although past precedent suggests a five-year contract for the No. 14 and No. 16 picks, the Eagles and Fins are believed to be taking a hard line pursuant to a "you asked for it, you got it" attitude toward the NFLPA and the new CBA.

And if Brodrick Bunkley and Jason Allen ink six-year deals, they'll be tied up through 2011, missing out on free agency during the first two years in which the cap approaches and/or exceeds $150 million.

If Bunkley becomes a star, the Eagles will tear up his contract long before the sixth year.

That's their M.O. and either Wichard is too stupid to understand that or he's just plain ignorant.

Of course, that works both ways too.  I think the Eagles are being pigheaded as well because if Bunkley ends up sucking, they'd probably want to kick his ass to the curb long before the fifth or sixth year of the deal comes about.

Either way, both sides in this deal are acting stupidly.

I still think it's hilariously retarded if this is the hold-up.  Here are the possible scenarios:

1a.  Bunkley signs for 6 years, and he plays well and proves to be a starting-caliber DT.
Result:  Eagles offer to extend his contract after no more than 3 or 4 years in the league.  If negotiations stall, he's holding out by the 5th or 6th year anyway.

1b.  Bunkley signs for 6 years, and he proves to be mediocre-to-poor against NFL-caliber players.
Result:  Bunkley is glad he got the larger signing bonus.  Eagles are glad that he's playing for minimal yearly salary by years 5 and 6.

2a.  Bunkley signs for 5 years, and he plays well and proves to be a starting-caliber DT.
Result:  Same as 6 years, only instead of holding out in the 6th year, he's a free agent.  If the Eagles didn't extend him before the end of his 5th year in the league, they weren't going to re-sign him anyway.

2b.  Bunkley signs for 5 years, and he proves to be mediocre-to-poor against NFL-caliber players.
Result:  Eagles are happy, because they gave him a smaller bonus.  Bunkley is either happy to get a change of scenery no later than 5 years into the league, or he sucked anyway so it doesn't matter.

It simply doesn't make sense to either side that the hold-up is simply a 5/6 year issue.  I would guess it's something more along the lines that the agent is asking for a contract that easily voids with minimal performance incentives but still has the signing bonus akin to a 6-year-deal.  That would make more sense.

did anyone hear lurie yesterday at the state of team address deny that he ever said the gold standard comment...he said it was someone and that it got attributed to him....dont ask why you would deny sdaying something that everyone in the world watched and heard you say it

wip has been playing the interview all morning of lurie actually saying it

"the rest of the league looks at us as the gold standard"...then they play that nelly song where he goes "oh oh...oh oh"....better heard than typed...funny sjit tho

not surprising that his train wreck of a press conference isnt being discussed here but he did anyone also hear him say how character is the most important thing in any player

awesome!

Deserves its own thread

it only doesnt because we are on a team message board (which are by nature ultra biased) and the owner looked like a complete and utter fool...so i understand why it wouldnt be important here

but to me...wherever you come down on what was said....the state of the team address is very important...and absolutely should be discussed in its own thread...it happens once a year and is conducted by the man who OWNS the team...

yeah..and just like the state of the union address..it's nothing but a flood of PR bullshtein spewing from the mouth of a patently untrustworthy person.

You were the first person I thought of when I read that. I pictured your head spinning round with steam coming out your ears, like in a Little Rascals episode.

For once I wasn't being sarcastic.

I hear Lurie make comments like that and it makes me cringe, and yeah, I do think Lurie's state of the team newsie is worthy of its own thread.

well you bleed cynicism so i can understand that....im not saying you have to take it as gospel...but to me a state of the team address is a no brainer own thread....and not just because lurie sounded like a retard yesterday...if he said everything i wanted hear i would feel the same way....like i said its a once a year occurance and to me is a big day

in the  will fully admit i didnt start one or even talk about it until now as i will sound like a broken record front office hater...i kind of thought someone else might tho
