Haven't visited this thread in awhile.  Since people are busy trying to prove how cool they are for not watching American Idol, I thought I'd chime in.

Cool's got nothing to do with it.  Everything about that show is awful.  The singers are horrendous, the judges are self-serving idiots... it's just flat-out hideous.

If you enjoy it, though, good for you.  Some people like anchovies on their pizza.  American Idol = anchovies to me.

I don't mind watching American Idol once they get down to the final 5 or 6 contestants because then you're actually getting people with some talent.  The only problem with that is since I don't watch the show from the very beginning, I don't know when it's safe to finally tune in and watch.  Oh well.  Life goes on.

Even the winners have been less than spectacular.  The only part that is at all conceivably entertaining are the first episodes, where the awful and delusional people try out.  But, even that isn't much fun anymore, because half of the horrendous people are faking it just to get on TV.

Donnellys premiere didnt do that well. Had more than half the Heroes audience, but there was a big tune out from 10-1030. But the pilot had been on Netflix and online, and they reairing the pilot on thursday and over the weekend on cable. So next week will be telling of the future.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

CSI: Miami crushes whatever is put up against it.  Even a premiere show like BD would get slaughtered.

MDS

Doesn't have much to do with that. 3 shows at 9 all do very well. CSI Miami has there own audience, an audience of idiots. And good lord are there a lot of idiots in America.

A bright note for the Donnellys is that it was younger skewing. However, after next week, it won't have the Heroes lead in....so that could hurt it.

I think Heroes is going to reruns for a while.

MDS

Yea. They have about 5 more episodes to air, so they'll be back at the end of April. It's about a month and a half break.

Networks trying to find some equalibrium to air serialized shows for the duration of the 36 week season, but only with 22-24 new episodes. Due to the rapidly declining attention span of the American people, reruns are becomming a thing of the past. People lose interest when shows go on multi week breaks, and especially hate when shows weave in and out of new episodes and reruns. So what networks are doing is either holding shows off so they can run them straight through with no repeats (24), or breaking down the season into a few seperate runs (Heroes is going 11-7-5, Prison Break goes 13-9, Lost 6-17, Jericho 11-11).

So far its worked for Heroes, the numbers have stayed consistant. Same for Prison Break. Jericho had lower numbers last week, but they had a longer break and had to up against American Idol. Lost, as its been documented, was way off and will go to a 24 style run next year.

My guess is when a show becomes established, they will hold the premiere off until mid-October. That way, around 7 or 8 episode can run in the fall, then bring it back towards the end of January and run it straight through with at most 1 repeat or pre emption for something else. But since most new shows debut in september, thats when even a serialized show has to debut. Heroes had that problem this year, next year there will most likely be a shorter spring break than there is right now.
