i DVR'd them both

Me too.

Also - Studio 60 was excellent on Monday.  I know there isn't a whole lot of love the show on this board, but goddamnit, it's excellent IMO.  Too bad it will be shown the door soon.

Me three!

"Studio 60" has been one of our favorite shows this season, but I can see why its appeal would not be widespread.

Have never seen it.  Why do you think it would not have broad appeal?

There are a lot of political jokes with a distinct elitist left-wing flavor and inside "showbiz" jargon.

It's typical Aaron Sorkin.  He caters to intelligent audiences.

Elitist?  There is nothing elitist about mass marketed entertainment.   Unless you count the contempt which the cynical producers hold for the audience.  But I see your point.  Same deal as West Wing.  Big words, dialogue about ideas, etc.

Made for people who read books.  Which I guess ranks as the new definition of "elitist."

One of the on-going storylines deals with the fictional network's battle with the FCC over obscenity in news broadcasts.

That's not exactly the type of thing that would appeal to many television viewers, especially those who are riveted by programs like American Idol or The Biggest Loser.

What's great is that they take potshots at the wasteland of reality TV occasionally also.

Basically, there really is humor for a wide variety of intelligent audiences on the show, but there is not much for those that roll a bit slower in the mind.

Heroes was better than 24 on monday. 24 had to throw in that stupid monkey wrench in the plot. I like 24 a lot, but it can be so lame sometimes.
Calling it right on the $ since day one.
Just pointing laughing, and living it up while watching the Miami Heat stink it up.

SunMo

24 is reaching a point where they won't be able to top themselves anymore and then it will all be over

Are you talking about Graham his brother? I liked that plot twist. Jack torturing him at the end was a great way to end the episode. Ever think maybe Graham's son is actually Jack's kid since he was banging Graham's wife before Graham was? We knew little of Jacks family aside from his dead wife and daughter, plus his brother being the evil behind Logan last season was a great way to segue seasons.

The BIGSTUD

That is what I'm talking about. I didn't care for that twist all that much. Not just the brother too, but the dad. I don't like how in every season someone related to or close to one of the characters has some type of involvement with terrorists.

Last season Rudy's ex-wife's coke-head boyfriend was involved with them. The season before Audrey's husband had his name involved with the terrorists. They did it a lot all the way back since season one, and I think that act is a little tired. I would've preferred if Graham was some guy we didn't know and Jack had to hunt his ass down.

I still liked the episode, just not that particular twist.

Sounds like a soap opera to me.  Stupid TV.

They have to outdo themselves even if they come up with borderline unbelievable scenarios, SunMo alluded to it earlier, once they stop topping themselves the show is done. No one wants to see a similar plot - or anything close - from a prior season.

Wingspan

I have a feeling this will be the last solid season of 24.

While I like this season so far, it's getting real close to "jumping the shark".

Jack signed an extension over the hiatus. I forget how many years. It was either 3 or 5. But no way 24 can last that long. You can only have so many seasons where terrorists are ripping your country apart. The only thing holding 24 together is Jack's badassness.
