I watched a real estate show called House Hunters last night that featured a woman buying a place in Philly.  She was looking for townhouses in and around the Art Museum area and I nearly shtein my pants when I saw the prices they were getting for them.

She paid $425,000 for a place at around 20th & Ogden which was about five blocks north of where I lived in 1987 when I got out of school.  I was paying $550/month for a 3BR apartment back then in that neighborhood and now people are getting close to $500K for row homes?

They've basically gutted them all out and rebuilt into really nice places. They did it where we used to live too. One of my best friends lives over behind the penitentiary and her house is gorgeous and her whole block is the same way.
