"Cheers" was butt-naked last in the ratings after its first season.  Not just last on NBC, I mean, completely last.

Somehow they managed to go 10 more years after that first dismal ratings season.

Eh - they canceled great shows on Showtime and HBO too, so it's not like pay television's any better.

Same with Seinfeld.  Either way, i thought the show had something to offer, but AI and all the other crap on tv continues to dominate.

It's different for a sitcom than for a serialized drama. Unless it's something like 24 which can essentially re-invent itself each season, serialized shows go make or break with the pilot. The plus side is extreamly loyal viewership, though generally that begins to go down because no one is jumping on the ship midway through or even peaking in. That's why you're gonna see less and less Lost type shows, and more Greys Anatomy ones (where there is a procedural element to it, and also a serialized one...works on both levels).

Seinfeld actually premiered in the summer, then got a midseason run the next year. Season 3 was the first time it was the normal schedule, and by then it was doing fine.

But with TBD, it was simply viewer rejection. It had a good timeslot, plenty of promotion, but people simply didn't like it. Leaving it on wasn't going to change it, people were jumping off after each episode. And considering the serialized nature of the show, new viewers joining in next year would just be confused. It's done.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

The Shield season 6 starts up tonight. Can't wait. Season 5 was by far their best season and season 6 got great reviews.
Calling it right on the $ since day one.
Just pointing laughing, and living it up while watching the Miami Heat stink it up.

Very good start to season 6. Liked the episode a lot.

I had a feeling that the Black Donnely's was heading towards a St. Elsewhere type ending with that dude in jail making up everything he was talking about

Ha...I forgot about the snowglobe ending.

I DVR'd lastnights LOST and just finished watching it, I'm starting to get the feeling that the Others are trying to sucker the survivors into running the island so that they can split, and that Ben is possibly training Locke to take over his role. Episode was excellent.

Father Demon

Agree that it was a good episode.  Not sure about getting people to run the island, but I'm not really digging the character change by Locke.  Couple episodes ago when he was playing on the computer while the rest of the team was working was very out of character, killing their "hostage" was also out of character.  If it wasn't for the flashbacks, I would swear that Locke was one of the Others.  I still haven't ruled that out, that he is the primary reason the rest were somehow pulled together just for Locke.  He may be the "main" person for the Others, and this is all a giant scheme to allow him to walk again, and regain full control of the Others group like he once had.  Something like that....

Question -- I watched it while I was somewhat tired, so I may have missed something.

When the Others were donning gas masks and then gassing Kate and Jack, wasn't Juliette in the group that put on gasmasks?  I swear I saw a flash of aqua, the shirt she was wearing.  Just wanting to make sure, bucause I.m not believing she was tossed aside like Jack and Kate.  She's there as a spy.
The drawback to marital longevity is your wife always knows when you're really interested in her and when you're just trying to bury it.

You all know that the actress who plays Juliette was Angelina Jolie's lesbian lover in Gia, right?

I thought I saw Juliette putting on a mask, as well. It really surprised me to see her out there with Kate.

I'm starting to think that the Locke we now see isn't the Locke who was on the plane. Possibly a clone or replica or something like that. That would explain why he could suddenly walk.

Come to think of it, all the "survivors" could end up being clones. I always wondered how anybody could survive the crash. Maybe there really wasn't a crash, but it could be an elaborate set-up and an implanted memory. That would also explain how The Others know all the details about the survivors.

Not bad.  That could work.
