the problem is they are not even coming to the bars or small venues. i discovered some good underground music this year, none are coming to philly. they went to DC, Baltimore, NYC, Jersey, but not Philly. Somethings wrong with this picture

The El-P concert was ridiculously incredible. What a farging performance. This man is genius. I know understand his shtein better. It may be hard to get used to on CD...but when you're at the show, his music is the shtein!

The show opened up with an area dj 'C-Minus'...part of the 'fantastic four'....used to be on 'Flavor Fridays' on Friday nights and they'd play nothing but good, underground hip-hop from like 10 to 1 or 2am.

Next was some old school rapper 'Percee P'.

Then, this one guy 'Davinci' from 'Soliliquist of sound'. He tore shtein up! This guy had two drum machines and some sound manipulating machines and that was the dopest shtein I've heard. He was twisting sounds and coming up with some crazy ass beats...that definitely woke up the crowd.

Finally...El-P. It was as if god were stepping on stage. From when the his band came out on stage without him...til his last goodbye....that was probably the best performance I've seen. He started off with a couple of songs of his new shtein....he then threw in "Vital Nerve". (auto/matic/just for my people/auto/matic/just for my crew....). He then played a couple more songs from his album, then played "deep space 9mm"...crowd went farging nuts. Fists pumping in the air, crowd swaying left and right, up and down, heads bobbin, that shtein was hype! Then he stopped and got the crowd hyped again...and then pointed at his dj because a beat was supposed to drop...and the dj flipped off el-p because the machine broke...so El-P was just lying there on the stage and then some queen, we will rock you beat came on and he rapped 'Patriotism' to that beat. You get the idea...he finished his set with the new album....left the stage, crowd chanted 'El-P, El-P'....he came back on...did 'Tuned Mass Damper' from Fantastic Damage and finished with 'Stepfather Factory'.

His show was pure energy from the moment he stepped on, to when he left.

Dope farging show. I recommend it if he's going to be in your area.  :yay

He reminded me lots of KRS ONE.

Definitely into his lyrics, did a few acapellas. Not bad, not the greatest, but gave his 'spect anyways. He was carrying an album cover of Big Daddy Kane & him vs. someone that starts with a C....I can't remember.

Anyways, yeah, you could tell by his style he was from the 80's.

Ha!

When we were in line, he was selling his CD's. He asked if I wanted one, I said no thanks. Then when he got on stage, I realized that was him. Pretty cool. It's a classic story, selling your shtein on the front lines. I give him props.
