In Avant's case, there were questions about his speed after running a 4.8 40-yard dash at Michigan's pro day. But the measurements are misleading when considering the 6-foot, 209-pound receiver's production. He had a cast on his hand when he ran the 40-yard dash, impeding his start. But he'll let his on-field performance ring louder than his performance on a track.

"When I get on the field, I'm faster than any DB out there," Avant said. "I get open, I get separation. People are going to say things like that, but the 40-time is all track technique. But I'm a football player."

Jeez... how do you get ANY start on the 40 with a cast on your hand?

"The hard work I have put into the game, from watching film, watching the cornerbacks technique, knowing they can't cut certain ways, different things like that as well as side to side movement," Avant said. "I think it will be a great fit and I am just ready to make all the teams that didn't pick me pay for it."

I want no part of Skyler Green, I'd rather have Jeremy Bloom. I also don't want another Pinky in Watkins.

I wouldn't mind Marshall, Mike Haas, Jason Avant. I'm not going to pretend to know everybody on Phreak's list.

I would also consider taking a flyer on Reggie McNeal or Michael Robinson. McNeal ran a 4.41 40 and is a hell of an athlete. Robinson is a football player pure and simple, although I don't know where his best position would be.

Did you see the smile that came across ARs face when he was asked about Avant? He really seems to like this guy.  I would say he seems like a lock to make the team they wouldn't have traded up so far in order to secure him just to cut him.

I don't worry about those curses, Edwards showed promise before he got hurt.  Larry Johnson certainly showed PSU backs can play in the NFL.

The difference between Avant and the "busts" is that those guys were all these highly touted first or second round players that were busts. Not lower round guys expected to be a 3rd or 4th WR.
