Baldwin and Barb couldn't even crack the top 30 prospect list of what many consider a bad farm system.  For a 2-month rental, you can't really complain....

No problem at all with this trade. At first I was a little worried that they might've dealt some of the only good ones they have down there. But Baldwin and Barb isn't bad. Both are in A ball.

Moyer is a junkballing LHP who is better than Mathieson right now. I think Mathieson might be best suited for a closers role in the future. He loses gas after 4 innings. I'd put his ass in the BP right now and let him pitch outta there. He isn't a vadge like Floyd so it shouldn't kill his fragile psyche.

I liked Utley coming outta the dugout though. Him and Rowand should've killed Ortiz.

I like the deal. Moyer is better than Matheison. The two guys they sent in return will most likely not amount to much.

Moyer has been pretty crappy thus far in the second half, and has been bad outside of Safeco this year. But, he still can keep a team in the game (alls im lookin for is 3 or 4 runs in 6 innings), which is more than we can say for Matheison. Worth a shot, considering who they gave up.

One bad thing is he came from St. Joe's. An awful, awful school.

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

This move is stupid.  Whatever they have to pay Moyer for the rest of this season is money they should have put away to spend next season.  I don't care about the prospects.  I just care about the cheap-ass owners.

Moyer is another ex-Seattle re-tread that Gillick is trying to make his own.  Sure, he's not as awful a pitcher as Ryan Franklin, but the move just makes zero sense.  This team's whole focus should be to realistically win a World Series as soon as possible.  And it ain't possible this year.

QuoteMoyer will replace rookie right-hander Scott Mathieson, who has struggled since the Phillies called him up from Double-A Reading. Mathieson is 1-4 with a 7.23 ERA in eight games. He didn't reach the fifth inning in four of his seven starts.

Meanwhile, Moyer has pitched at least six innings in 20 of his 25 starts. He had the second-lowest run support in the majors at 3.5 runs per game, and the Mariners didn't score a run while he was in the game in four of his last nine outings.

no problem at all with this.

They HAD to get Mathieson out of the rotation and there had to be a replacement.,

I don't know how much, but the Mariners did send the Phils some money in the deal as well, which I hope would be put towards the remaining amount owed to Moyer for this year.

I don't hate this trade but I'm not in love with it either.  Sure, the Phils gave up practically nothing for him but I guess what pisses me off is that a few weeks ago the Phils seemed ready to tank the rest of the season even though we weren't that far out of the WC and now they appear to be trying to make a run at it.

Rome

Jamie Moyer is a solid, professional, Major League starter.  Mathieson is not.

Moyer's presence as a veteran pitcher with playoff experience does nothing but help the team down the stretch.  I think it's an excellent move by the Phillies.

As for last night's game, I loved how they jumped all over Ortiz.  Hamels was impressive again and the second inning was nice.  I also loved how the team reacted when Rowand got hit.  Big surprise that it was Utley who stormed out of the dugout.    :-D

I actually thought he was going to charge the mound after he got plunked.

Oh, yeah... Howard's blast was awesome.

Yeah, but at Wal-Mart, rather than at Macy's.  :-\

The Phils will pay about $900K of Moyer's $5.5M salary, according to Randy Miller....

Today's game....7-1 Phils in the 3rd inning  :yay

^^^   Randy Miller sure is optimistic.   :-D

Baberaham hit a three run dinger.  10-1 Phillies.

As he went back to the dugout the entire team gave him the silent treatment for a couple of seconds before jumping up and giving him high fives.   :-D

Abe Nunez just jacked a 3R Homer. Yikes, are the Nationals bad.
