Phils take it 2-0. This team is hot like no one's business. Gordon got in a bit of trouble, but went right after Dunn and put it away. Bring on the pink bats!  :yay
"The very existence of flamethrowers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, "You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.""  R.I.P George.

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Lieber has been money his last 3 starts. Nice to see him gettin right. The entire rotation has been on. Well, with the exception of Corey Lidle's abortion the other night. But I wonder how he would've fared had Ryan Howard been able to make a play or four at 1B to you know, actually prevent runners from getting on, advancing and scoring.

My boy Brett Myers goes today and I think he will be on again. He is developing into a stud.

Bobby A has back spasms and will not play today. Roberson will probably start for him again since Claussen is a LHP.

Geary is back up. Did he even have time to unpack in Scranton? Julio Santana has elbow tendinitis and went on the 15 day DL.

QuoteLieber near-perfect in Phils' win

CINCINNATI - Phillies leftfielder Pat Burrell pulled rookie Chris Roberson to the side about the sixth inning tonight at Great American Ball Park.

"You know what's going on, right?"

"Yeah, we need some runs," Roberson replied.

"No, man," Burrell said. "Don't worry about the runs. We've got a no-no going. I know it's your first big-league start and everything, and I'm not trying to put any pressure on you, but we've got to catch everything."

"OK, I got it."

Phillies righthander Jon Lieber had a perfect game through 62/3 innings in an impressive 2-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. In 82/3 innings, Lieber (3-4) allowed just two hits and struck out six in easily his best start of the season. He threw 20 of 28 first-pitch strikes, and 83 strikes in 110 pitches overall.

"This is definitely a real big confidence-booster for me," Lieber said. "This was a big win."

Reds leftfielder Adam Dunn spoiled Lieber's quest for perfection when he hit an absolute bullet up the middle on a 0-1 fastball with two outs in the seventh. The ball zipped over Lieber's head and took a bounce off the infield dirt before it scooted past shortstop Jimmy Rollins, who dived to try to make the catch.

"It's my fault," Rollins said.

Hardly. Rollins would have needed to have been positioned almost directly behind second base to make the play.

But he insisted he still could have made it.

"That's the only play I didn't prepare for," he said. "If I had prepared for it, I would have been able to dive on contact. That's pretty much the only way you can make that play. I've done it once in spring training. I never had a chance."

Lieber kept Rollins busy throughout. He fielded seven ground outs - six before Dunn broke up the perfect game - including a nice barehanded pick-up and throw to beat Austin Kearns to leadoff the fifth inning.

"It's fun. I don't mind," Rollins said. "They can hit every ground ball to me."

The Phillies, who have won 12 of 13 and remained just two behind the New York Mets in the National League East, took a 1-0 lead in the seventh when Quinton McCracken dropped Ryan Howard's pop fly with two outs. David Bell followed with a double off Reds lefthander Dave Williams, who allowed just two runs in 81/3 innings.

The Phillies tacked on a run in the ninth. After Lieber surrendered a two-out single to pinch-hitter Ken Griffey Jr. in the ninth, closer Tom Gordon and picked up his 12th save.

But the Phillies obviously wanted to see Lieber throw a perfect game, or a no-hitter.

None more than catcher Sal Fasano.

"He said the other day that if he caught a no-hitter, he wants a car, at least," Rollins said.

"That's right," Fasano said. "I forgot about that. I said if I'm a catcher and I call a no-hitter, I want a car."

So, what car?

"I'd let Jimmy pick it out," Fasano said. "He's got better taste than me... . But I'd take a '72 Caddy, powder blue with a white ivory interior."

Not too shabby.

Neither was Lieber.

"Everything was pretty good," Fasano said. "When you can throw a two-seamer, four-seamer and a slider and you can throw them to both sides of the plate, it's tough to beat."

The Phillies need Lieber to pitch like that more often. He is 3-0 with a 3.32 ERA in his last three starts. Phillies starters also have a 3.32 ERA in their last 13 starts. If they continue to pitch like that it could be a fun summer.

"Of course, I feel better," manager Charlie Manuel said. "I might even go have a drink tonight."

Just one?

"Maybe more than one."

Drunk Charlie!

I go on vacation, and this team turns into winners?

Let's see how they do now that I'm back.
