no doubt...but im not even talking about that...im above and beyond the fact that manuel was an awful hire to begin with...and that gillick should have cleaned house when he came in...and the fact that manuell is a horrid manager and makes bad moves...ect ect...


im talking about in general...im talking about if anyone had been the manager for the last year and a half and this team was putting forth the effort they are right now...five in a row...three of four to the nats...swept by the mets in galactically embarrassing fashion...two at home to the farging devil rays?....something has to be done...if for no other reason than just to do it...the fact that the manager is a buffoon even when they are winning is even more reason to fire him...not to start winning...not to make the playoffs...not for any reason other than to show that you care...there is not a single reason on earth that he should be managing this team right now and more than ever before there are reasons he should be fired

Abreu's name shows up in the New York tabloids almost as often as Angelina Jolie's. But no matter how ugly the Phillies looked in that series against the Mets, they're not going to pull the plug on the season when they're as talented as any wild-card contender in their league. And they're not going to FedEx Abreu to the Bronx for a couple of Florida State League hotshots.

So the odds of the Phillies' dealing Abreu or Pat Burrell in midseason are slimmer than Lisa Kudrow. They both have total no-trades. They both are owed humongous dollars ($15 million plus at least a $2 million buyout for Abreu next year, $27 million for Burrell in 2007-08). And the Phillies wouldn't move either of them without getting a legit ace back. Which would be, well, who, exactly?

But the Phillies are sending signals they're looking to retool, get younger, bring in more guys out of the Aaron Rowand School of Hard Noses and import a true, proven, top-of-the-rotation arm/leader. They're just more likely to work on that mission over the winter than in July.[/quote[

It's nice to see the Phillies finally competing with the Braves. Too bad they are competing for the fastest sink to the bottom of the division.
