No, not this year. I'm working over the summer. School and Summer don't make sense together.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

QuoteHamels' debut could be Friday

The Phillies' top prospect appears to be on the fast track to the big leagues.

One of the most eagerly awaited Phillies debuts in recent history could take place Friday in Cincinnati.

Team officials met yesterday to discuss the future of pitcher Cole Hamels, and there were strong indications they have decided that the prized lefthander will make his next start in the major leagues.

"We're close," assistant general manager Mike Arbuckle said. "It's not going to be much longer, but there are a few moving pieces we have to figure out and people we would have to talk to."

Ryan Madson and Gavin Floyd would be those moving pieces, but it's unclear which one would leave the rotation to make room for the Phillies' top prospect. But it makes sense that Hamels would pitch Friday against the Reds, because he is scheduled to pitch Friday for triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre against Ottawa.

Floyd is scheduled to pitch tomorrow night in the series finale against the Mets. Madson is scheduled to pitch Friday.

The Phillies could keep it simple and move Madson for Hamels, because their days to pitch coincide. Madson is 3-1, but he has a 6.82 earned run average. If he had enough innings to qualify, he would have the second-highest ERA in the National League. In 301/3 innings, he has allowed 49 hits and 16 walks, and has struck out 15. Opponents have hit .371 against him.

Madson also has had two successful seasons in the bullpen, which could be a factor. The Phillies may figure they would be strengthening the rotation and the bullpen at the same time.

Floyd, who also has struggled, isn't a candidate to move to the bullpen. If the Phillies move him, he likely will be sent to Scranton. But because the Phillies had Monday off, they conceivably could pitch Madson tomorrow night since he would have had his normal rest.

Hamels, 22, the team's first-round pick in 2002, has allowed a run, 10 hits and a walk with 36 strikeouts in 23 innings in Scranton. Opponents have hit just .128 against him. He is 14-4 with a 1.43 ERA in his minor-league career.

Hamels has had health issues in the past, but is fine now. The Phillies also have said they would like to see Hamels pitch more innings in the minors to gain more experience.

But Arbuckle said the innings pitched no longer are an issue.

Friday? Don't bet against it.

Yes!! :yay

Move Madson to the pen, please.

Surprisingly there weren't a lot of Mets fans there. Only a couple hundred

are you joking...it was disgraceful how many mets fans there were...thats what they are talking about on wip...on tv is was insane looking...it was at least 50/50 in the sections behind the mets dugout....and lots of mets fans elsewhere...they showed a shot of nady's homer from the outfield seats and a ton of mets fans were going crazy....you could hear the lets go mets chants on tv as well...there were far more than a couple hundred there.....i was ashamed of philly last night watching that game

Calm down, IGY.   :-D

The Mets have always, and I mean ALWAYS had a large contingent of fans at the games in Philly.  It's not that big a deal, bro.

I used to love going to Phillies/Mets games at the Vet because Mets fans would always show up to talk shtein.  It was nearly always an electric atmosphere when they were in the stadium because if nothing else Philly fans don't take kindly to opposing fans doing chants and what not in our house.

Besides, after all the misery the Phillies have put us through during the past 20 years, can you really blame the fans for staying away?  I can't.

SunMo

so it's ok that half the ball park was Mets fans?
I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

I never said it was okay, Mo.  I said it is what it is.  Mets fans have always traveled to Philly to see the series and always will.

And I seriously doubt 1/2 the fans were Mets fans.  I watched the game on the computer and didn't get that impression.  There were a lot of Mets fans there and they were loud and boisterous but I doubt that 1/2 of the people were Mets fans.

BTW: Were you in attendance last night?

SunMo

no...and saying half was an exaggeration.. but i'm willing to bet it was 60/40

are you suprised IGY
A guy i work with was at the game, he's a Mets fan who moved from NY to Delaware and has always even when back in NY would show up to at least 3 games down here in Philly.  Its like the Eagles fans making a trip to DC every year.

It wasn't 60/40.  It was about 80/20 or 75/25.  Still too much though.

reese125

yeah Im reading these comments and kind of confused here....whats so disappointing about Mets fans being there. I was at the game last night, and there were far more Phillies fans there. A good mix, but way more Philly fans. The place was awesome.

Its only expected that we will see tons of Mets fans at a Philadelphia ballpark--why the hate?

That's probably a better estimate. And I don't see the point in this debate, what do you want Phils fans to do, beat up the Mets fans? That would be quite the contradiction since I see our fans everywhere.

ice grillin you

so there were three times as many phils fans as mets fans....which means there were about 600 phils fans there

If you take Philly_Forever's word for it. Most of us don't.
