hardy har har.  I was actually sitting in most of these pictures. She was just a miserable twat the whole night, from the start of the day actually. Had a hissy fit in the bridal suite as we were all getting ready. Unforgivable. We were not friends by the time I got back from our honeymoon.

some of us can't afford to give more than $50 regardless how much the per plate cost was to the hosts

I always give a fire extinguisher (in addition to cash).  I like wrapping presents and I like to have something to attach the card to.  It's a nice heavy object so the couple thinks they got something good.  It's usually good for a laugh when they open it.  Even if they already have one, or are given one by some other weirdo, you cannot have too many.  It might save their lives or their home.  You can find them anywhere and they are inexpensive, so if you have to fly to farging Iowa or wherever, you can pick it up once you're there (though you still have the problem of finding wrapping paper).  It's a memorable gift..people don't forget who gave them that fire extinguisher.

Did you un-friend her on facebook too?  Because it doesn't really count if she's still on your facebook.

PhillyGirl

there was no facebook when we got married. So no, I was never her friend on facebook. Thanks for caring though

speaking of wedding costs...we recently have friends marry in NY.  I was in the wedding party so we had to be up their early and stay in the same hotel with everyone else rather than shack up with friends.

by the time the whole thing was over, we had spend $1,400 or so.  And that's not counting wages I would have earned had I worked instead.  Now, these are friends, and we could do it--just--so I'm not complaining.  But it also meant that we don't go on a vacation this year because we have no money left.

I've always been under the impression that "traditionally" members of the wedding party don't have to deal with the added expense of hotel rooms and such.  Granted, not many people do the traditional wedding anymore where the father of the bride absorbs the entire cost, but $1400 to go to a wedding seems a bit steep.

hotel room alone was $300 per night...it's NY

Yeah, I get that.  But still....what was going on that required you to physically sleep at the hotel?  Did the put shock collars on you to prevent you from leaving the hotel?

PhillyGirl

That's a hell of a selfish assumption that anyone coming could afford to take out $1400 (plus lost wages) to attend their wedding. why make it that EVERYONE has to stay at that hotel at that kind of price? farg people like that. We got discounted room rates for our wedding party, i think it was like $59/night and they only needed to stay 2 nights (rehearsal dinner and wedding nights).

It was a several day affair....I'm sorry if I make it sound like I'm complaining.  The cost did put a hurt on me but I don't regret it.  They are good friends and we had a great time.

We got married on a farm close to Baltimore...cheap flights, cheap hotels...our families cooked all the food (except the cake), etc...very little expense.

I have given fire extinguishers as closing gifts to my clients, along with a do-it-yourself home repair book from home depot, and a home depot gift card of $100. There aren't enough fire extinguishers in a home and I doubt that more than 10% of the people on this board have one.

My girl keeps talking about the 'M' word...and she says she would like the ceremony to take place on a beach in mexico. She said, that anyone who could make it, would make it. I told her it was selfish. She said, it was her dream. I cut her head off.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds
