I don't get the St. Paddy's day hate. Which is prevalent. As a semi-professional drinker, any day specifically designed to celebrate getting drunk in public gets the thumbs up in my book.

NYE is worse than St. Patty's day imo. Don't get me wrong they're both awful but NYE is celebrated on a larger scale which takes the douchbaggery level up a few hundred notches. My circle is going to some bar in Philly that has a $100 cover charge. Pass. Why does every bar that advertises NYE put "champagne toast at midnight". Really? On NYE you're going to have a champagne toast at midnight? How original! If I did ever go out on NYE no bar has ever had a 'champagne toast' unless you buy that shtein. All they do is turn the music down so you can feel bad for Dick Clark to start the new year. I'd rather do something less painful like stick my meatcicle in an oven.

let me be very clear about this: i DON'T hate st. patty's day.  it's my favorite farging day of the year.  what i detest is the usual collection of mongrel douchebag iceholes who filthy up my local irish watering hole because it's the "place to be" for that day.

seriously, it's like going to an eagles game and being surrounded by "fans" who don't know jack shtein about the team or the game.

for pretty much the exact reasons rome has mentioned st pattys day is a billion times worse than nye...the people are abhorrent...its the biggest frat party ever...nye you at least have the option of what kind of scene you wanna partake in and you can find a mature intelligent fun crowd to chill with if you want...st patricks day is basically the same wherever you go...complete and epic douchbaggery
