In much the same way that I don't think it's responsible to constantly portray black kids as thugs, I think it's irresponsible to constantly portray women as sex objects.  I commend Sesame Street for not playing the black kids as thugs and the chicks as porn stars.  This makes me a prude, I guess, but I can live with that.

Uhh, no.

The whole point of conflict in the phallic stage is portraying their behavior in the correct light. If you punish them for touching themselves, they may become ashamed of their body. If you ignore it completely, they may become little sluts when they're older. It has nothing to do with seeing something like Katy Perry on TV talking to Elmo. Kids that age naturally explore their bodies. It's up to the parents to explain (in a way a 6 year old would understand) that those things are done in private and that you shouldn't touch other people.


THawk, I definitely wouldn't classify myself as Freudian....He was a coked up crazy dude. But if you eliminate all the weird details and just look at the general basis behind his psycho-sexual theories, they tend to make sense. Especially if you combine them with other child development theories like Piaget and Erikson and etc.

Freuds theories are stupid. The only way to make them make sense is to combine them with other psychologists theories, using 99% theirs and 1% Freuds
