Sarge, it's a dress. Not letting them watch a clip of a show that they love because the character they're going to be paying less, if any attention to, isn't going to protect them from anything.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

That's another point on it's own....kids, even at 5 or 6 are curious about sex and (in most cases - chuggie excluded) persons of the opposite sex.  By age 6 I was already sneaking into my parents bathroom and checking out the stack of Playboys my dad had in there and trying to figure out what to do with the little woody I kept getting.  I got detention several times for looking up girls skirts on the playground during recess.

Anyway, it's pretty dumb to be throwing blame at or condeming anyone for opting to pull that skit off the air.

They're curious about the opposite sex, but not because they're horny and want to have sex with them. Because they're curious and learning.

If we're talking about "subconscious" level, then not letting them watch something as innocent as that because a little cleve is showing is sending a "subconscious" message that it's bad to be curious about your body/others. It's not. It's a natural part of growing up. And there's a huge difference between a clip like that, especially on a TV show that has the kid so engrossed you'd ahve to say his/her name 3 or 4 times just to get their attention, and looking at a stack of playboys, and you know it. Don't wander down hyperbole lane on me now.

Look at halloween costumes on sale for ten year olds and tell me that seeing women portrayed as sex objects at every turn doesn't have something to do with why very adult-ish outfits are on the market.

When you're trying to raise a girl, it's not the best thing to have every chick they see from age 2 in a bikini, shaking her hips.  Is that so hard to understand?

You don't get it.  One of these days you might.  But right now you don't.  You've got a very narrowminded point of view on this one that probably stems from not having kids.  Once you've got a couple farg trophies running around it'll all make sense.

You don't have to be a parent to get this.  It's enough to be a concerned citizen.  An uncle, a god parent, etc.

You're right, you don't have to be, but I don't think Munson would get it unless he were a parent.....or maybe even in a few years when he's a little older and hopefully wiser.  He's like a early/mid 20something right now and I'm chalking his point of view up to youthful ignorance more than anything else.

Which would make sense...if she were in a bikini shaking her hips like she does in her music videos.

There aren't any moves in clip that can be construed as even remotely sexy. At one point they show elmo running cirlces around her legs...was that too sexaul too? because her knee caps were showing?

Come on, folks. This aint when you guys or when your parents grew up anymore.

Sarge I have no doubt I'll be an overbearing and overprotective parent, especially if I have girls (I really hope God or whoever's running shtein doesn't do that to me). But I'm not going to stop them from seeing something that's not violent, sexual, or incredibly offensive. This clip is none of those. I will stop them, however, from dating too early, hanging out with boys alone, etc. They can hate me for that.
But I've got little cousins, 2nd cousins, and I've been in classrooms observing kids a few times. I'm not trying to expose them to all the sex they can get. I was surprised when my little 8 year old cousin asked me if I played Call Of Duty, as I don't know if I'd let a child of mine that age play a shooter. But there's nothing even remotely innocent to a shooter game. This is an innocent clip on an innocent show. There was nothing sexual or sexy about it. She was in a dress, playing dress up. And the kid's gonna be too busy being distracted by Elmo to even care what Katy Perry was wearing. Ask the kid the next day what he saw on Sesame Street, he'll probably say he saw Elmo singing a song.

That's the thing though......what you consider ok for your kids might not be something anyone else approves of for theirs.  Doesn't make anyone right or wrong, but everyone raises their kids different.  And shows like Sesame St are supposed to be that neutral ground that pretty much everyone should be able to let their kids watch and not have anyone get offended or object to the material being presented or the manner in which it's presented.

Munson

Fair enough.

But someone's always going to find something to complain about these days. It gets old having to cater to the few that complain. America has become so overly politically correct, it's sad.

Did you watch the clip?

Yeah, I saw it and it's showing a lot more than just the top of her clevage.  It's a night club whore top and I definitely wouldn't want my daughters (when they were younger) watching that for any reason.

I agree with this, I'm not saying I'd be outraged if I saw it on TV but it would definitely raise a flag. It's trashy. And I'd stop arguing with munson on this, he doesn't have any kids. My almost 3 year old has a mind like a sponge, she amazes me on a daily basis with the stuff she picks up. I was watching a movie a while back and she commented "that girls boobies are hanging out" and the top was less revealing than the one Katie Perry is wearing.
