I got contacts yesterday and cannot get the damn things in.

It took awhile to get them in yesterday at the doctors. I spent about a half hour trying to get them in and finally said farg it. I got the right one in and then couldn't get the left one so I had to take the right one out.

Any of you slackers have any tips?

Diomedes

wash your hands before you put them in or take them out

look up as you put the contact in, not straight ahead
once the contact sticks to your eyeball and you pull your finger away, push the lower eyelid in towards your eye gently and move it around..this will help the lens settle on your eyeball.

in a month you'll do it without thinking, it just takes some time to get used to touching your eyeball

Cool...I'll try looking up. I was looking straight ahead. One of my problems is my eyes are kind of set deep in my head, so its hard to get them open wide enough. I kept hitting my eyelashes. The other problem was the lens would fold in half or flip over my finger inside out after I tried to push it in. I guess I was pressing too hard.

Rome

Tom Robbins couldn't have described it better.

I also use my other hand to hole my eyelids open while I'm applying the lens

Success.

I got them on in 5 minutes.

Thanks Dio

mussa

I put contact on my right pointer fingerr, I use both my middle fingers to pull top lid up and bottom lid down. then put contact on eye with right pointer finger. right pointer for both eyes since im right handed. i remember first time trying contacts i wanted to throw them away I hated it, but like dio said within a month or so you'll be a pro. its just a really odd feeling getting that close and touching your eye ball at first its hard not to flinch and pull back, instincts...

lol....I asked about it. It's an elective procedure and would cost me a cool $4K. Maybe if it rock the craps tables at Vegas I will get it.

I got 'em out ok tonight. The left eye was a bitch. Hopefully they go in easy tomorrow.

is this the first time you've worn contacts?  if so, it'll be a little while until you get the hang of putting them in and taking them out.  not to mention for your eyes to actually adjust to having them on.  you'll probably blink A LOT more often for a few days or maybe even a couple weeks until your eyes get used to it.

I clean mine with white vinegar, works much better than the saline.
