So I had to spend two days in Louisville. Well, in the Kentucky/Tennessee area. I just got back to Houston tonight. We toured several vendors that we buy lumber from and the saw-mill's and it was pretty cool. It was also cool being flown around in the parent company's private plane.

However, to get to Louisville was a mess. I booked my ticket through Continental. Because I have a shtein load of frequent flier miles and wanted more. But their booking process is farged up for the Houston market. They, like many airlines, have the 14 day advanced purchase period. I checked the flight cost on April 14 and it was $250 - straight shot from HOU to LOU. When I went into the office the next day, it was all the way up to $930.

However I could fly out of Austin for $217. Austin is 3 hours away from here. And I would have to drive there, only to catch the plane and fly BACK to Houston for a connecting flight. WTF? Since my company paid, that is what I had to do. I rented a car and drove to Austin. I parked my truck at Houston so I could just get off the plane tonight and drive home and never get on the return flight to Austin.

The bitch of it was, I was running late to Austin yesterday. I got to the gate at 3:55 and the flight is scheduled to leave at 4:05. But the goddamn plane is already gone and the lady says "well virtually everyone was here so we sent it". Me and two other people got the shaft.

They had to put me on AA through Dallas to get me into Louisville on time.

What a crazy mess. I still don't understand how it was cheaper to fly out of Austin back to Houston, to Louisville, back to Houston and then back to Austin. And they wonder why they lose money.

I hear ya. I was looking into flights from Harrisburg to L.A., and they were routing me through Philly. I then asked why I shouldn't just drive to Philly and pick up the same flights they were connecting me with. Of course, doing so would have cost me several hundred more dollars. The same flight, just without the connecting leg from Harrisburg, was more money. Strange.

If anybody has ever lost their wallet (I'll put it at 95%), some nice tips to prevent fraud

1. Do not sign the back of your credit cards . Instead, always put 'PHOTO ID REQUIRED.'

2. When you are writing checks to pay on your credit card accounts, DO NOT put the complete account number on the '"For'" line. Instead, just put the last four numbers. The credit card company knows the rest of the number, and anyone who might be handling your check as it passes through all the check processing channels won't have access to it.

3. Put your work phone # on your checks instead of your home phone. If you have a PO Box use that instead of your home address. If you do not have a PO Box, use your work address.

4. Place the contents of your wallet on a photocopy machine . Do both sides of each license, credit card, etc. You will know what you had in your wallet and all of the account numbers and phone numbers to call and cancel. Keep the photocopy in a safe place.

5. File a police report immediately in the jurisdiction where your credit cards, etc., was stolen. This proves to credit pro viders you were diligent, and this is a first step toward an investigation (if there ever is one).

But here's what is perhaps most important of all: (I never even thought to do this.)

6. Call the 3 national credit reporting organizations immediately to place a fraud alert on your name and also call the Social Security fraud line number. I had never heard of doing that until advised by a bank that called to tell me an application for credit was made over the internet in my name. The alert means any company that checks your credit knows your information was stolen, and they have to contact you by phone to authorize new credit.

Now, here are the numbers you always need to contact about your wallet, if it has been stolen:

1.) Equifax: 1-800-525-6285

2.) Experian (formerly TRW): 1-888-397-3742

3.) Trans Union : 1-800-680 7289

4.) Social Security Administration (fraud line):
1-800-269-0271

Please pass this on to 50 people you know and you will have good luck forever and ever. Thank you

1. Do not sign the back of your credit cards . Instead, always put 'PHOTO ID REQUIRED.' old people love this

2. When you are writing checks to pay on your credit card accounts, DO NOT put the complete account number on the '"For'" line. Instead, just put the last four numbers. The credit card company knows the rest of the number, and anyone who might be handling your check as it passes through all the check processing channels won't have access to it.lol, your bill has your credit card #

3. Put your work phone # on your checks instead of your home phone. If you have a PO Box use that instead of your home address. If you do not have a PO Box, use your work address. if your work # cant be verified to you, stores will not take checks when they do their equifax background check

4. Place the contents of your wallet on a photocopy machine . Do both sides of each license, credit card, etc. You will know what you had in your wallet and all of the account numbers and phone numbers to call and cancel. Keep the photocopy in a safe place. not a bad idea, but you should know what you have in your wallet

5. File a police report immediately in the jurisdiction where your credit cards, etc., was stolen. This proves to credit pro viders you were diligent, and this is a first step toward an investigation (if there ever is one).investigations are fun, especially when people lie about when they actually lost their card

The alert means any company that checks your credit knows your information was stolen, and they have to contact you by phone to authorize new credit.this only works for 90days, unless you get an extended alert which is good for 7 years

Now, here are the numbers you always need to contact about your wallet, if it has been stolen:

1.) Equifax: 1-800-525-6285

2.) Experian (formerly TRW): 1-888-397-3742

if you call one bureau, they are required to tell the other two bureaus

BTW, stores are not supposed to accept your credit card unless you have signed it.  The purpose of signing is not for proof of ID, but to acknowledge to the vendor that you have accepted the CC company's terms of service.

Of course, most cashiers don't even look.

Also, VISA (and I think Mastercard) have a no-hassle policy, which states that you do NOT need to provide additional ID to use their cards.  When the cashier asks you to see your license or whatever, you are not required to show them per their agreement with Visa.  Of course, fighting about it is way more of a headache than just showing them.

Also, it really is a great idea to photocopy everything in your wallet - both sides.  It makes it easier to get the info you need when it does happen to you.  Credit card numbers and phone numbers, etc....

Just when you think you're being a nice guy.....

from D.A.RE Officers

DON'T FLASH HEADLIGHTS AT ANY CAR WITH NO LIGHT ON!!
Police officers working with the DARE program have issued this Warning...
If you are driving after dark and see an on-coming car with no
headlights on, DO NOT FLASH YOUR LIGHTS AT THEM! This is a common 'Bloods'
member initiation game' that goes like this: The new gang member under
initiation drives along with no headlights, and the first car to flash
their headlights at him is now his 'target.' He is now required to turn
around and chase and spot that car, then shoot and kill every individual in
the vehicle in order to complete his initiation requiremen ts. Police
Departments across the nation are being warmed. Their intent is to have all
the new bloods nationwide drive around on Friday and Saturday nights with
their headlights off. In order to be accepted into the gang, they have to
shoot and kill all individuals in the first auto that does a courtesy flash
to warn them that their lights are off. Make sure you share this information
with all the drivers in your family!! Please forward this message to all
your friends and family members to nform them about this initiation ritual.
They are also known to drive with high beams on and will do the same as
indicated above.

Amish Gang Members

In The Riddle of Amish Culture, Donald Kraybill explains Amish 'gangs' in Lancaster county

By the age of ten, an Amish child will be able to name some of the groups—Bluebirds, Canaries, Pine Cones, Drifters, Shotguns, Rockys, and Quakers—and even describe some of their activities.

Youth are free to join the gang of their choice...Parents worry about which groups their teens will join because they know that one group may invite temptation, whereas another will reinforce parental teaching.

Gangs are an important outlet for Amish youth going through the formative period known as Rumspringa. Most are fairly tame. Some do get wild.

No, he is calling out his colleagues for being backwards.  Damn boy...RTFA.

Given the recent primary results (including exit polls) I think he's right.
