Hard-core athiests proselytize just as much as people of any faith.

Keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better my Florida Christian brother, but it's just not true.

I've been approached by all kinds of christians..mostly Mormons and Witnesses..by Hari Krishnas, by Jews for Jesus, and railed at by militant muslims (their version of recruitment, I gather).  Never had an atheist preach/evangelize to me.  I hear four or five sermons every week on the subway..never once heard an atheist pitch.

For every evangelizing atheist there is, there are thousands, even tens of thousands, of fanatic religious people preaching.

A 26-year-old Ethiopian man residing in Smyrna was taken into custody today after more than 700 pounds of khat was confiscated by Smyrna police.

Khat, or qat, is an East African flowering plant that contains an amphetamine-like stimulant that induces a mild euphoria. It is banned in the United States because it contains the controlled substances cathinone and cathine that have addictive qualities.

Smyrna police spokesman Lt. Norman Wood said Mohamed Kamal Kabira, who had been living in a North Delaware Avenue apartment before being recently evicted, was turned over to Drug Enforcement Administration agents.

Wood said Kabira is a student at Delaware Technical and Community College.

U.S. Attorney Colm F. Connolly declined to comment on the arrest or say what charges will be filed against Kabira.

Wood said officers were tipped to possible illegal activity last week after it was reported that Kabira was getting frequent UPS and Federal Express deliveries.

Investigators learned that the packages delivered contained illegal drugs that were being stored in a rented storage unit at Sentinel Self-Storage, at 52 S. Cory Lane.

Wood said police obtained a search warrant Friday and recovered 40 boxes -- each weighing between 16- 20 pounds -- containing the green leafy substance. The total weight of the drug was 704 pounds with an estimated street value of $211,275

Save perhaps Jehovah's Witnesses.  They're relentless.

I've never been accosted by an atheist, Geo, nor has an atheist interrupted a pickle-tickle session with my wife by ringing my doorbell at 7:00 on a Sunday morning.

Atheists don't send literature to my house begging me for money either.

Atheists are actually far more rational and respectful of others beliefs than hardcore religious fanatics.  At least that's been my experience anyway.

Another shout-out for Priceline.com here:

I'm going over to see the Sillies play the Sox tomorrow in Clearwater and I didn't feel like driving all the way back to Daytona so I went looking for a hotel room on Priceline last night.

I did the "Name Your Price" johnson and ended getting a room at the Hyatt Regency Grand in downtown Tampa for $75.

:deion

Whoever invented Priceline needs to be french-kissed by Jessica Alba.  Considering all the dough I've saved over the years by using it, I might even pay for it too.

:yay

Agreed.  Although, I believe that the number of those who believe in some sort of higher power greatly outnumber the true athiests (agnostics don't count, since obviously they're not going to preach at anyone).  I wouldn't be surprised if the percentage of obnoxious argumentative athiests is just as high as believers (both Christian and others).... but obviously their sheer numbers would be much lower so general perception would be that they're not generally as pushy.

Rational, most likely, respectful, no.

As for priceline, I agree it's the shtein, last year I got a 7 day trip to Dominican Republic, roundtrip airfare, 6 nights at the resort all-inclusive (thats a lot of free food and booze) for about $450.  It was off-peak season, but still, cheap as hell.

Fanatics of any stripe are going to be annoying and obnoxious regardless of their beliefs.

I had a guy prosyletize to me at a Tuffy Oil Change place a few months ago.  It was like 7:30 AM, I was hungover and simply trying to get my oil changed in peace when the idiot starts in on me about accepting Jesus Christ as my savior.

At first I was polite and respectful but he kept after me until I finally had to tell him to shut the farg up and leave me alone.  I literally said that too: SHUT THE farg UP, DUDE.   I complained to the manager and ended up getting a discount for the hassle.

Let me try this again.  Computer timed out and I lost my reply...

I'm not speaking of mere numbers.  Yes, there are more religious "recruiters" than there are for athiests, mainly because there are more people that have some kind of faith than there are athiests.  I'm speaking of the vehemence in the message.

I've come across a few athiests in my time - even attending a Christian college.  I have found them to be quite aggressive in trying to "prove" that there is no god.  They are also rather dismissive about anyone with a contrary point of view.  In some ways, it is like the atmosphere that can be found on this board from time to time.

Is there a more boring topic than religion. People that hate it are just as bad as people that embrace it. Who farging cares. Find something else to talk about.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Phanatic

The big difference between the atheist and the righteous are the righteous are organized and part of a large organization dedicated to increasing their flock so to speak. Militant Atheists are generally individuals who'll tell you how they feel at the first sight of the "G" word or when religion is mentioned in any way.

They can all kill themselves to settle the debate once and for all...
