I just got offered a transfer to recruit in Philly for 2-3 years and they can move me as early as May.  As much as I'd love being stationed back home for a few years I don't think there's any way I can handle recruiting any longer than I have to.  My old "boss" in Kansas City wants me back out there too.  If I get a chance to go then I'll jump on that in a heartbeat.

Move back in with your ex-wife. You give her a bad rap. She seems nice.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Sgt PSN

Then you take her.  She's a manipulative slut and you're desperate for a piece of ass.  Perfect match.

What is the deal with military men marrying farging psychos. Jesus christ.

All of my friends who went into the services are either divorced or married to psychotic shrews. Idiots.

The average intelligence of someone who willingly joins the armed forces seems to be coming into question.

Yeah, pretty much.  I got married for basically the same reasons that most (young) people in the military get married:  moving out of the barracks.

Once you get hitched, the gov't throws extra money at you for a house or apt.  You get to live off base.  You don't have to go through the hassles of room inspections any more, etc etc.

It was stupid and I got pretty much what I deserved for being an idiot.  Lots of debt and 2 kids I hardly get to see.  Still working on the latter though.

Thank you, Mr. Kerry.

The good news is you're not average.  You're super!

The fact is that the military is by far dumber than they want us to think, dumber than we're supposed to say publicly, and dumber than we actually think they are.  Poorer too.  Smart people have other options and very often choose them.  Not always..there are recruits who could have done other things.  But not farging many.

Sorry.  Go ahead and get pissy now everyone who wants to be offended by the truth.

I actually do agree with that for the most part.  In the Marines, the infantry requires the lowest test scores to qualify for.  Obviously, they are the ones who do the most dying.  College probably wasn't an option for them either because of grades or family income or whatever.

Most of the people who join the military and score well on the tests are given more technical jobs, which typically keep them out of harms way.  Administrators, aircraft mechanics, planners, logisticians, etc, etc.

Of course, you occansionally have people like me who scored extremely well on the entrance exam, pretty much had my pick of colleges and still joined and went into the infantry.  Of course, times were a lot different when I came in and my original plan was to go in for 4 years and I just wanted to do something that I wouldn't be able to do in the civilian world.  When I decided to reenlist I also opted for a job field that was more fitting to my abilities though.  No more bullet sponge work for me.

And then you've got officers.  Every single one of them is a college grad.  Most of them could opt for civilian jobs making just as much, if not more money than they do in the military and yet they still choose to join.  And while most officers are kept safe in the rear, infantry officers (especially the junior grades) are on the front lines with the troops and just likely to get shot as a "dumb" private is.

As for people in the military being poor, it's true but not true at the same time.  The money I bring in a month is less than impressive.  $3000/month to be honest with you (after taxes).  But when throw in the dollar value of the benefits that I don't have to pay for, family medical and dental, 30 days paid vacation, unlimited sick days, retirement, blah blah blah, I make a very comfortable living.  In order for me to go into the civilian sector and still be able to live the same quality of life I enjoy right now including benefits I would need to make somewhere in the area of $80-90,000/year.

And the problem isn't the amount of money that you make in the military.  The problem is when you've got 18 year old kids getting married and then having kids while making about $1200/month.  They have no concept of budgeting or saving or how much money it actually costs to provide for a family.  And the wife typically becomes a stay at home mom because the cost of day care exceeds the money she would make working at the Gap or Burger King because those are the only jobs she's qualified to do.  It's amazing how many military families are on welfare, food stamps, wic, etc, etc.

Diomedes

When I say poor, I'm talking about before they join.  We all know that once you join, you're made for life.

Yep.  And they treat you like a hero and make sure your family is alright.
