True. But your example is more applicable for a tagged, tangible item. It's supposed to protect the consumer from retailers who might arbitrarily change an item's price.

Anyway, if the price is obviously way wrong, I see no problem with somebody alerting the seller that there is an error, rather than trying to bleed the seller dry. All those people flocking to the pump in that story sounds like looter mentality.

Puuleez, the oil companies are the ones looting. (Anticipating your next argument) you are correct, the store owner has to go along with the program. The store owner should also have a pump totalizer in the store for each sale. He should also have employees with enough brains to know that there is someting wrong with a 10 gal. sale for $3.29.
If ther is no pump readout in the store, anyone with half a brain would know that if someone is pumping gas for 5-10 minutes and pays $4-$9.00 for thier gas, something is wrong. If the customers are not bitching about the pumps running slow, get your azz out there and find the problem. If the store owner has hired stupid people that don't care, he shouldn't get off the hook by some rat calling the cops.

I have a friend that works for ExxonMobil, and her arguments about the price-gouging are that they are using the money to find more oil and more environmentally-friendly ways to refine it.  I told her she's full of shtein.

I feel I won that argument.
