Emirates would be great if I ever wanted to fly to Doha or Nairobi. But I just want a comfortable, no stress flight from Philly to L.A. Or some shorter domestic intinerary.

Defending your position with semantic arm-waving is so IGY.

Show me for that matter where Sus defended United Airlines.

T Hawk, I don't know what's a joke and what's not.  But I don't think he's got their back either.

The critical thinking and reading skills here are deplorable.  I'm a Nazi because I don't march in step with the knee jerk anti-corporation circlejerk, and have the audacity to point out that the subject of all this bullshtein acted like a rank farging icehole.  Which he did.

I don't know, sometimes I think I'm talking to reasonable people here, but then I'm reminded that no.  Idiots.

I was making a joke but since you're getting your knickers in a twist I'll respond seriously. There's a point that you're trying to make, you're just making it badly. So I'll try to help you make it better. United Airways was obviously in the wrong here. But it's hard to have sympathy for someone who acts like an icehole. Generally, acting like an icehole in life will get you treated like an icehole. The problem with your argument is that it amounts to victim blaming. Just because he was acting like an icehole doesn't justify anything that happened to him. Not everyone is Ghandi in the face of bullshtein like this. So while your underlying point about not acting like a stupid dick is valid, all of your comments come across as victim blaming and that's why we are all pushing back against them.

united will no longer kick passengers off boarded planes

they will also no longer consider a plane overbooked if it is airline employees that they need seats for

its just a start but this exactly why you dont automatically do this...

Airport security asks you off, get off.

and also why anyone who put even 1% of the blame on the passenger should be ashamed

He was breaking social norms which is not inherently dickish but in this situation was selfish and inconvenienced lots of people.  That's where all of this disagreement is rooted.

It's also come out that him and his wife originally accepted the $800 but reneged once they found out about the late replacement flight. They tried to get other volunteers and obviously none bit. Then they "raaaandomly" selected a passenger and he was the one picked. That's when he started refusing.

Wonder if it even makes it into court.

But no, he was not right. He voluntarily signed a contract that stated this may happen.

I am defending United to a degree because once security was called, they were out of the decision making process. Security, CPD, elected to overreact almost as much as the passenger. Maybe the United crew should have beaten down CPD for using excessive force, but I can understand their hesitancy to do so. Also, booting people is regulated by the Department of Transportation, not United.

That being said, United is to blame for not providing the paperwork from the FAA/DOT saying, "Sorry, passenger, but you're getting das boot.", but judging by his over the top reaction, that would not have made the process seamless. He forced United to call security by violating the contract he signed. However, he didn't force security to abuse him.

United is to blame for their zesty implementation of a well-established process, CPD is to blame for being too violent, and the victim is to blame for not honoring his word (the contract). If I thought he was in any way standing up for what he perceived to be a social injustice, I'd be more empathetic, but he doesn't give a farg about the perceived injustice of de-boarding paying customers; he only cares about how this previously unknown contractual stipulation affects him. farg him.

The four crew members who caused the four passengers to be involuntarily separated from the plane needed to get to Louisville to be the crew for another flight. It's better a few people get booted from the Chicago flight than having the entire Louisville flight canceled.

Das Boot rule affects about 40k of 650 million travelers a year. At well less than 1%, I'll gladly keep the rule and bravely accept the risk of it happening to me. It's safe to assume the reason some passengers are displaced is to make room for people who are flying so they can say good bye to their dad before he dies or similar situations.

lol at "signed a contract"...get that corporate bullshtein speak out of here...he bought a ticket...the man tried to farg him out of it and he did exactly what he should have done and it resulted in admittedly not strong enough changes but needed changes...this is a textbook example of how to create change

power to the people...farg United and farg the black boot stomping airport police thugs

it's also especially sweet because of the three different pathetic attempts made by the United CEO trying to explain it away and blame the passenger...it was so gross so to see him have to come crawling back with his tail between his legs was an extra bonus

Why are these needed changes? Obviously police brutality needs to stop, but I don't see anything wrong with Das Boot rule.
