I coached this guy's son in baseball for district playoffs. he was a good guy,  that got hooked on opiods. not sure how that came about but this is all too common. yet sessions only seems worried about pot.

the saddest part is for the family members is his niece was buried on Monday after dying from a herion overdose.

Opioids are an epidemic. Over the past 6 years 4 friends (2 from highschool) died from OD.

its messed up. I grew up with that guy's sister-in-law. she's been raising her grandchildren since her daughter got hooked and now has to deal with so much more.

Lost my best friend to them back when we were in our 20s. I knew he was mixed up in a lot of coke and speed but had no idea about the opioids until he ODed.

I don't see any positive role that the criminal justice system can play in this public health problem. The shtein is going to continue to exist. The people who are addicted will do anything to get it. Making it harder for them to get will just push them to further extremes.

One thing that would help is if lazy docs stopped giving people 50 oxy after performing a procedure that is supposed for hurt for three days, just to avoid calls asking for more painkillers. That's how people are getting hooked on this shtein in the first place.

Most docs have now become scared/reluctant to prescribe opioid painkillers. When I was going through my ankle and knee issues they wouldn't give me shtein other than prescription strength stuff that is basically stronger Aleve.

I asked for something stronger and the chick looked at me like I was some pill popping junkie.

Funny enough I can eat Vicodin like candy and it has zero effect on me. Maybe it is because I took it so much when I was younger thanks to all my broken bones and torn ligaments.

But I can see how people get hooked on strong stuff and graduate to heroin. Liquid morphine was farging amazing.

I had reconstructive surgery on my shoulder this summer and I can tell you that my doctor was not shy about prescribing opioids, that I ate a shtein ton of them and got addicted, that coming off of them was a nightmare once I realized what was going on, that I came down completely on my own and that the doctor/patient/chain-of-care system was not set up to deal with pain-control or the resulting addiction. They just asked if I was in pain and gave me drugs accordingly.

Opioids are a farging disaster but my bigger concern is that there doesn't seem to be any alternative. I can say without equivocation that recovering from shoulder surgery was more painful than the injury that required the surgery and more painful than any other surgery I've had. Without effective pain killers I would have been a useless pile of shtein and the doctors had no protocol to avoid or deal with withdrawal. So I don't know what the solution is but the current system is farging dangerous.

Since you guys are obviously all sunshine and lollipops, I can only assume that you might be interested in helping a good cause.

Long story as short as possible: My son made bunch of money for charity last year, including Rock the Dogs,  a dog rescue. Kidding aside, I know a lot of you guys do, in fact, like dogs. At any rate, the kid decided to turn his 13th birthday next week into a charity event. He's, oddly, friendly with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and Mike Campbell is supporting the effort, which is cool. That said, he made $4,000.00 for the charity in three hours last year, which set quite the expectations for this one and I don't know if it's realistic that he'll come close this year.

Anyway, if you have a dollar or two, don't hate dogs, and wouldn't mind helping my kid not embarrass himself by while doing a commendable thing, it would be great if you'd participate in some way. Any contribution goes directly to the charity and is tax deductible.

If you're interested in helping out even a little, here's the donation link. And below that is the event link so you can see more about it. Thanks for thinking about it, and thanks more if you actually do something with it ;-).

That's pretty cool.  I get a kick out of his vids on FB.  Kid's come a long way since he first started playing.  Happy to put a few bucks to the cause.

Very nice! Appreciate it. Yeah, he's been playing for about three and a half years. He's been able to do some cool shtein, for sure. He's like the Forest Gump of guitar.
