My mom's been visiting with me for the last 2 weeks while my daughters are here and her dog's been pretty sick for the last month or so and we finally had to put her down today.  She was 15. :(

That sucks Sarge, but that's a darn good lifespan for a dog.  My parents dog just hit 9, he has new Tumors popping up every week it seems.  My previous golden only made it to 8 y/o because of leukemia

u can be a scientist with no common sense. thats usually the case with book smart people anyway.

This is one of my favorite "I'm an idiot but I get through the day by telling myself that smart people have no common sense which had better be true because if it isn't than I'm completely farged" rationalizations. It's so common that people have actually started to accept it as having some truth to it.

Reality: stupid people are far more likely to also have no common sense than intelligent people, it just happens to be more noticeable and contrary to expectations when a genius can't figure out how to buy milk for himself.

Bottom line: stupid is stupid. Stop trying to make yourself feel better about your sub-par intelligence.

Although you probably didn't enjoy the last month knowing that you'd have to put her down, atleast it wasn't unexpected. I've told a bunch of stories here about the dog I had that I needed to put down in November. He only walked on one back leg (other leg was struck with cancer really bad, huge tumor) and always hopped around. In early August or so the vet said he had 2 weeks to 2 months to live, and about 4 months went by and it seemed that he wasn't getting any worse. Except he got so weak, that one day the back leg he walked on just gave out and got completely dislocated. It was a Sunday too, so no vets were open except one about a half hour away and seeing that dog just crawl on his front legs crying and whining his ass off trying to walk for over an hour was one of the worst experiences of my life.

Just an FYI - because of the shortage of substitute teachers, the standards to become one are, shall we say, lax.  In my district, basically all that is required is a high school diploma.

Hey Geo, do you do ESY or any school related stuff in the downtime?

I'm teaching 6th grade summer school.  The students get to fail for an entire 36-week year, and make it up by taking a three-week course.

One class, runs from 7am until 11:30 am.

your clever use of words and perfect grammar doesn't make you any smarter than me or anyone else, it just means your good at that and probably that only.
