That's for if you get summoned in your state of home record....PA in your case and you were on active duty in Cali.  But you actually could have been called to jury duty in Cali while you were living there.

the 9/11 memorial that my company built is finished and we are going to the dedication on Saturday at Liberty State Park.

it was a stressful farging job, but we got it done and I think it looks good.

That looks great.  What is it made of/how was it constructed?  Are you actually working on it, as in, hands-on?

In the meantime, how many memorials does the country need?  Here is one in Millersville, Maryland that I drive by all the time.  It's a County Memorial, not a State one, and is set to "open" on the anniversary.  It features steel beams from the towers, of course.

I understand a few large memorials -- at the sites of the attacks, this Jersey one since that community was so deeply affected, etc.  I just wonder, do we need hundreds of these things?

p.s. here is the Maryland State monument:

you got it, more steel beams

IMO, everyone was so unbelievably affected by that day, I wouldn't be opposed to every city having one. Everyone needs to express their pain from that day in some way...going to a memorial site helps. South Jersey wasn't directly affected (lots of south Jersey people lost in the attacks however) but that doesn't mean they don't need a place to mourn the lost and teach their children and their children after them, what happened....not necessarily traveling to each crash site or from the history books...but right there at home.

sorry, rambling....

A memorial in every city would be ridiculous.  We lost 60k Americans in Vietnam.  How many memorials to that do we need?  WWI?  Civil War?

Oklahoma City bombing was awful...how many for that?

Without the 24/7 media shilling 9/11, it would be memorialized in a more appropriate and modest way.  But the country is obsessed and everyone has to show their town was affected too...it's silly.

Who is making all the money selling these steel beams?

I'll be at the NJ dedication on Saturday, yeah.  If you're talking NYC on Sunday, no I won't be.

I was assisting our VP who managed the job himself.  I lined up suppliers, made plant visits, ordered material, etc but no actual hands on fabrication.

The structure is a concrete wall that runs the entire length.  We built a strut/framing system of stainless steel channels and plates, then the 1/4" stainless plates were mounted to the frames.  Then the frames were installed on-site.

The plates were a nightmare to deal with, we had 1/16" tolerances to work with on height and width, as well as flatness, then the polish was a custom polish that combined a #4 and a #6.

wow what a piece of shtein that maryland monument is.

Dio, I was saying I wouldn't be opposed, not that it should happen.

But it affected a lot of people in more ways than OKC did. And killed thousands more, not to minimize OKC at all, but thems the facts.

I didn't need the media coverage to make 9/11 affect me more deeply.

When you say "concrete wall," you mean, formed and poured, not block work, right?  How long is it?  How tall?  What kind/how big of a footer did you lay under it?
those plates must have been difficult to handle.  And with only a sixteenth tolerance, it must have been tricky getting them all to line up properly.  How wide is the vertical gap between each panel?

You can't just throw something like that together...there were some damn good builders working that job.

Well done.

Neither of them are particularly edifying, to be charitable.  But hey, let's put one in every town in America!
