if it was 10 foot it would've been red flagged and all the little tourists would be stuck on the roasting sand waiting for the ice cream man. lol.

it was nice and glassy around 830-900 til like 11.. maybe 4-5 foot down in ship bottom 9th street surf beach.  we went down to wooden jetty (beach haven) and it was already dying down.. but the rips you were talking about were no joke. my buddy who guards in township plucked 3 dumb asses out all weekend cuz of the storming.

we were on the beach at 87th street from 10:30 to about 4:30 and it was consistently hard undertow with big waves.

east coast in the summer is notoriously bad for waves.  it sucked even harder in florida when i lived there.  and you actually had to worry about getting bit by sharks (new smyrna) beings as its the "shark bite capital of the world". anyway  there's been some storms so its kicking up some "big" waves for the time of year.. but its nothing like a thick november swell when a nor easter is churning off the coast.  i like rip tides, they have a good chance of sucking out some obnoxious new yorkers.
