chinese restaurant would have worked

How do you know it was strictly a Chinese restaurant?  There's a ton of places out there that feature foods from all over the Orient.

whatever it was im quite certain it could have called something other than an oriental food joint...other than possibly a wwII veteran i cant think of anyone that would use the phrase oriental food....american legion FTL

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

I'm not quite sure where "oriental" became a derogatory term. Hell, there are plenty of businesses that label themselves as oriental food stores or oriental restaurants. Sure, "Asian" would probably be more current and politically correct, but if you need to pick nits over "oriental," maybe you should go out and get some fresh air.

its only derogatory when referring to a person as oriental...problem is when referring to objects as oriental people not in the know almost always by association refer to people as oriental

and i wasnt nitpicking...i was laughing as i always laugh when i hear elders use that term...its hilarious to me

And everyone else with a half a brain laughs at you suggesting that calling them all Chinese is somehow less offensive.

The people are Vietnamease. They came over after the war, the local catholic church sponsored them. They started with a foreign car repair place and the first 7-eleven around. A few years later they opened the first of what ended up being 4 food joints. The one was in a bad location and the economy got the best of the business. Been there over 20 years. The family is well liked, productive members of the community.

thats terrific

but youre still hysterically old and out of date

its not a bad thing, its actually quite funny
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Right, all the crap you two put out is ridiculous. Every store they own has a neon sign in the front window that says, Oriental Food, big as life. I've seen other stores advertise the same way, but according to you two, you can call the food oriental, but not the people, even though I never said anything about what kind of people ran the place. You both preach political correctness and equality, but the truth is you hate more than anyone here. You make yourselves look like fools to anyone with half a brain. My guess is that it's all  just message board bravado and trolling.

I can only hope that you last long enough to be as old as I am. Trust me, Karma can be a real bitch.
