ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
07/21/2008

UPDATED, 7:52 a.m.

Police with rifles have swarmed a neighborhood in Maplewood this morning after a gunman fired shots at police and firefighters.

Three emergency personnel -- a combination of police and firefighters -- have been shot, said Tracy Panus, a spokeswoman with the St. Louis County Police Department.

The gunman is still on the loose. The area is near the 2400 block of South Big Bend Boulevard, near Zephyr Place in Maplewood.

A house and vehicle are on fire, but firefighters aren't going near them because of the gunfire.

It all started unfolding before 6 a.m. today, when firefighters were responding to a vehicle fire there.

Police have called for "an officer in need of aid" and several ambulances have been dispatched, though no word yet on injuries. Dozens of police cars from a mix of area departments are there. Many are crouching behind police cars with their weapons drawn.

Officers have surrounded a home that apparently is on fire. The home is near the vehicle fire.

Paul Kieselhorst, who lives about three blocks from the incident, said he heard four shots as his wife was leaving for work. Then, he heard a fifth shot.

He saw an ambulance racing from the scene with lights and sirens blaring. He said police tactical units have evacuated a few people from adjacent homes, and the situation at 7 a.m. today is still unstable.

"They still have the shooter holed up and people are at risk," he said.

This would be cool if it was the same dude just gone crazy and decided to make St. Louis look sillier than normal.

So this guy set fire to a vehicle in the neighbor's driveway, apparently as a trap for the firefighters.  They show up, he shoots at them, and kills one (22 year old fireman) and another is in critical.  The firefighters wouldn't go near the fire, the shooter's house catches on fire, they won't go near that one, and now reports are that the shooter burned up and died in his house.

BTW - this is the same town where that kidnapped kid was from that was being raised as the kidnapper's nephew for four years, undetected.  And also where some crazy went into the monthly town meeting and killed 5 people because they wouldn't let him run a construction business from his house.

St. Louis is the new Crazy Town, USA.

QuoteMan threatens to jump from Hart atrium

An unidentified Chinese man has been threatening to jump from the seventh floor of the Senate Hart Office Building's inner atrium for the past hour, according to Capitol Police.

Police have started conversing with the man through a Chinese translator and are attempting to coax him off of the shallow ledge on the outside of the glass wall overlooking the office building's inner atrium, where he has been for about an hour.

"We don't know very much right now," said Senate Sergeant at Arms Terry Gainer. "We don't know what his issue is or what office he visited. The police are trying to calm the situation and see if we can get him on the right side of the rail."

Police have closed the atrium but have not called for an evacuation yet.

ha

I'd like to see a wholesale change in the way we handle this crap.  A.) stop acting like the police know anything about calming a situation...they don't.  they're thugs most of 'em.  B.) encourage people to jump, and tell 'em they have about ten minutes before we send in the thugs to either take 'em down and charge 'em, or to cordon of the mess so the clean up crew can get started.

enough of this stupid shtein.  farg suicidal people..
