Keyshawn... Would the Eagles really have an interest?

I'm not going to lie...I don't like the dude.

Good on you for admitting it.  But can you say why??

I'm curious about the Keyshawn-hate phenomonon.  On the field, no intelligent fan has anything to complain about regarding Keyshawn.  Sure, he's not as good as TO or Moss.  Who is??  That's the only football complaint you can lodge against Keyshawn.  [getting to sideline antics in a moment, see below.]

Off the field, the worst he's ever done is say things like "I'm the best."  He's cocky.  I don't think it's just his cockiness that sets people off though, because there are plenty of cocky people.  He's articulate as hell, so that combined with cockiness probably pisses people off more than dumb cockiness.  But still..I don't see reason for the degree of knee-jerk disgust his name elicits from so many people.  On-balance, he hasn't lived up to the extreme hype that surrounded his entry into the league, inflated greatly by his own mouth.  So maybe that adds to it.  But come on..I'm nitpicking here.  None of these reasons even begins to explain Keyshawn-hate.

I figure that the hate comes from a combination of what I've said above with his occasional sideline shouting matches with coaches.  People get all upset about someone challenging authority.  People hate whistle-blowers, dissenters, protestors, and pretty much any other person who challenges authority.  It unsettles them to see it.   They think Keyshawn should get and stay in line.  Afterall, they are all staying in line..why should he get to step out of line?

It's a pathological response.

I think it goes like so for the Keyshawn haters:
[Cocky+articulate+unfulfilled expectations+well paid] + [challenges authority in a less than discreet manner] = dirtbag.

And it might as well be said:  For millions of people, the fact that he's black in combination with all this probably just stokes their rage.

This much is clear:  People just hate the guy.  But players don't.  Coaches don't.  Even coaches who have gotten into it with him don't.

Regarding the "Keyshawn is slow" argument:  so farging what?  Do the Eagles have ANYONE who is good for 75 catches and 6 TDs?  No, they don't.  He would be a massive upgrade.  Put him in the game on every down and the offense is considerably better for the next year or two.  Guarateed.

Where did I compare Keyshawn to TO? I didn't. He's still an a-hole though.
You didn't, and no one said you did.  Many people do, though.

I like the big body WRs.

Give me the tall guys who can shield defenders, win jumpballs and draw penalties when the midget CBs try to cover them.

And Reggie "Chad Johnson" Brown = gamebreaker.

i cringe for Phreak, he is just setting himself up with his boy Reggie.

Don;t cringe, my friend. Embrace the next stud WR in the NFL. Reggie Brown will shock the world!

I was going to get a jersey. But i am going to wait since Jabar gaffney wants to steal #86.

I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

What does Moulds bring to the table that Stovall couldn't possibly in 2007 and beyond?

I know who you'd rather have (duh), but your irrational hatred for Stovall makes little sense.

This seems to be the principal argument against him.  People don't like him.  Nevermind that he's reliable as a diesel Mercedes.  Nevermind that he's fearless with great hands.  Nevermind that he's durable.  Nevermind that he's a team player with veteren leadership authority.  Nevermind that he blocks better than most TEs in this league.  Nevermind that at 34 years old he's still as productive as he ever was, and just as consistent.  Nevermind all that..people just don't like him.

I laugh at people who compare Keyshawn and TO.  Sure there are some similarities (both are pro football WRs, both talk a lot, both bring it on the field.)  But the similarities are superficial.  In substance, one is a cancer on a team and the other is at worst an occasional headline.  TO is a bona fide insane person..Keyshawn is just a cocky mouth.  TO ruins locker rooms, Keyshawn leads them.  I'm surprised so many people think they are similar, especially after what TO did here.  I can't imagine a player who would be worse to have on your team than TO.  Keyshawn on the other hand has improved every team he's been on.

What's clear is that people just hate Keyshawn, regardless of the facts.

And like some of you have said, it doesn't matter because he's not going to be an Eagle.  I agree.  I think the FO is too cheap to pay him, to shortsighted to realize they need an improvement that he would bring, and too gun-shy about hiring anyone with an ego.  Cheap, unremarkable, placid players are the only candidates the Eagles will pursue.

Expensive, remarkable, bold players need not apply.

i dont hate him...ogontz ave represent...but 9 months ago he wasnt even getting drafted now hes a second rounder?...hes a charlie weis system guy who had one nice year in college....his negatives are high

in fact youre gonna see a lot of notre dame wr busts in the coming years...guy not that talented but had big college careers because of weis' offensive system...imo stovall is the first...except he had a nice college year

igy, you don't like Florida WRs either, do you?

i certainly dont.  Hopefully Gaffney can change that to a small degree.

theres also a difference btwn not  liking and taking with your second pick...id never swear off a player just because of where hes from but stovall just isnt a second round pick imo
