Rome

Ha.  You could say the same thing to the Eagles right now.

I don't think putting in a season of work and learning is "nothing", which is kind of the point. Getting 6 year olds to come out and practice 3 nights a week and then wake up early on saturdays to play games isn't exactly "no reason". Especially to a 6 year old. That's a huge commitment for a child.

We never had coaches that didn't scream at us, either. All 4 of the head coaches I had in pee wee ball were all large scary screaming men.

I think you've read way too much about the "participation trophy"...it's really not that big a deal. It's the parents whining when their kids team doesn't win, or gets beat too badly...that teaches the kid to whine and kick and scream when they don't get their way, and to be sore losers.

We got our asses beat that first year, but our parents just wanted us to keep playing and not give up on it. They weren't going to the commissioner of the league to to complain about teams running up the score or being big meanies to us. And almost all of them came back the next year, and I played with most of them all the way up through high school. Which is probably a big reason why my high school teams were so good. Half of us had known each other and been playing together since we were 6-7-8 years old.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

people learn lessons by losing.  first and foremost they learn how much it sucks and how it really should be avoided whenever possible.   this "everyone gets a trophy" shtein is nauseating to me and that's why i quit coaching youth basketball.  my last team went undefeated.  i held practices three days a week and ran their little asses like a taskmaster.   during the final game i left the starters in until they had ran up a huge lead, then i put the other kids in.  after the game was over the commissioner of the league thanked me for my dedication, then informed me that my old school ways weren't a good fit for the "fun" league they had in mind and i was politely asked not to return.

btw... the championship trophies were exactly the same as the ones they gave the winless team.

sickening.

holy shtein, wtf? What is that teaching kids about the way the world works? Don't worry about performance, nobody cares about achievement, no need to learn about setting your will to something and there's no such thing as getting ahead. Don't bother yourself, you all end up the same.

I've been on 3 championship winning teams, one in pee wee and two in HS, and the rewards for the chip were always much much more...bigger trophy, multiple trophies actually, jackets, a ring...it was awesome.

HA, the kid can barely walk and already Romo's teaching him to choke.

Meanwhile, injury update - team doctor Jerry Jones says Romo has a back injury. Looks like his medical skills surpass even his ability as a HC.

Oh btw, farg dallas

Don Ho

Dr. Jerrah.  Goddamnit that SOB makes me sick.  I can't ever in my life recall an owner giving injury updates in the NFL.  This Joan Rivers look alike has been doing it for years.

The really funny thing is that now Romo is also saying it's a back injury, so it sounds like he's taking doctor's orders like a good boy. Someone really should put together a weekly NFC east comedy hour (other than Jerruh's radio show).

Cowboys QB Tony Romo has been ruled out the rest of the season due to his back injury, per league source.

Apparently a herniated disc.  I had one of those about nine years ago, ended up in surgery over it.  Worst pain of my life.

Now the Cowboys are saying they haven't positively ruled Romo out.

Diomedes

I have a herniated disc.  Cervical.  I just live with the pain.

Same for the torn medial meniscus in my knee.  Pain.  Live with it.  Move on.

Well, Romo or not this should be an arse whupping. Injuries and new scheme regardless, the farging defense is pathetic. Keep it on the field with the run game and they'll be gassed by the time the fourth quarter rolls around. In some ways I hated 1-15 in '89 less than this season, about the worst I've gone through in 43 years as a fan. Well past time to blow the whole farging thing up but it won't happen because of Skeletor/Al David Jr. and his offspring running the show. Oh well.

Good luck on Sunday, no injuries. Assuming you beat our asses, good luck in the playoffs, you've had a pretty good run since November.

Also, Merry Christmas Eagles fans. Even though I don't visit often, I actually dislike the Eagles a little less because of the fans on this board.
