same scenario....i like gaffney...but....

if gaffney is just another body thrown into the mix with what they already have and the best three come out on top then its trouble

if gaffney is the #3 guy behind reggie and moulds then its a very nice move

Yep.

I like the deal, simply because Gaffney is an immediate improvement over Lewis and McMullen, insurance for Pinkston coming off injury, and will be happy to be reunited with his good friend and cousin Lito.  Also, it doesn't preclude the Eagles from adding another receiver of starter quality or a draft pick.

Of course... that is if this is even true.

Better than Wilbur and Gregory. Still need a Walker or Moulds. Having Gaffney as a #4 is fantastic.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

ice grillin you

gaffney is definitely better than a four...hes a very good three or a solid two IF he has better wr's around in front of him
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

He CHOSE Temple.
Anyone but Reid.

Found some info from when he was in the draft...

http://www.bigblueinteractive.com/draft/drpros02.htm

Donte Stallworth, Tennessee, 6-0, 197lbs, 4.35
Ashley Lelie, Hawaii, 6-3, 195lbs, 4.40
Jabar Gaffney, Florida, 6-1, 193lbs, 4.50(now 205 lbs.)
Josh Reed, LSU, 5-10, 210lbs, 4.50
Javon Walker, Florida State, 6-3, 210lbs, 4.40

Gaffney and (Josh) Reed are two players who play faster than their times. Gaffney is a very good athlete with excellent quickness. Very polished - reads coverages well and runs good routes. He probably will make the biggest impact as a receiver the soonest because of this. Has good hands, but he needs to be tougher going over the middle.

funny, but I also saw this:

Jeremy Shockey, Miami, 6-5, 255lbs, 4.65
Daniel Graham, Colorado, 6-3, 248lbs, 4.70
Matt Schobel, TCU, 6-5, 263lbs, 4.65
Doug Jolley, BYU, 6-4, 250lbs, 4.65

Schobel has fine size and speed and is another prospect who is a better receiver than blocker, but he does work at his blocking. Not quite the athlete that Shockey and (Daniel)Graham are, nonetheless he runs good routes, adjusts well, and can yardage after the catch.

WR Jabar Gaffney
(6-1, 193, 4.55e) Florida

Notes: Son of former Florida and New York Jet WR Derrick Gaffney, who was known as a quiet, tireless, hard-working overachiever when he was the second fiddle to Wesley Walker in New York. The younger Gaffney is a third-year sophomore who was trained on how to play receiver by his father. However, as a freshman in '99, he was kicked off the team and lost his scholarship after he allegedly stole cash and a gold watch from a high school all-star game locker room. Returned without a scholarship in 2000 and was an instant sensation, despite being suspended for one half for taunting Tennessee. Won Freshman All-America honors and All-Southeastern Conference honors, catching 71 passes for 1,184 yards and 14 touchdowns. Was a consensus All-American and a Fred Biletnikoff Award finalist in '01, when he snagged 67-1,191-13.

Positives: Exceptional athlete with tremendous body control and balance. Has nice, soft hands and exceptional ball skills. Does a terrific job of adjusting to the ball. Very fluid and plays fast. Runs by people and makes big plays down the field. Can go up and snag the ball at its highest point. Is no boy scout, but he has matured a great deal and erased some of the character concerns surrounding him.

Negatives: Still immature and likes to call attention to himself with his antics. Does not have a great size-speed ratio. Can be a little inconsistent catching inside and has very small hands for a wide receiver. Does not like to do the dirty work like blocking and running out routes at full speed when he is not the primary receiver in the pattern. Team's offensive scheme tends to make receivers look better than they really are, and most of Steve Spurrier's college receivers (Ike Hilliard, Travis Taylor and Reidel Anthony are past first-rounders) do not return full value for where they are drafted.

Summary: Can be an excellent pro if he grows up and learns from his father about how a pro behaves.

and on last thing on Schobel from the same site:

TE Matt Schobel
(6-4 1/4, 263, 4.75) Texas Christian

Notes: Younger brother of the Bills' 2001 second-round pick from Texas Christian, DE Aaron Schobel. Went to Texas A&M as a quarterback in 1997 and redshirted. Had to sit out the '98 season after transferring to TCU, where his brother and cousin were. In '99, saw action at wide receiver, catching four passes for 26 yards, and was the team's holder. In 2000, was a backup, moved to tight end and caught 4-42. Injured his hamstring in August '01. Returned for the opener but re-injured his hamstring and missed Games 2-4. Came back and dislocated his shoulder Oct. 1. Returned to catch a career-best 19-310 and five touchdowns. Started at tight end, H-back and wide receiver.

Positives: Excellent size-speed ratio. Good-plus athlete. Catches the ball well and looks like a natural catcher. Can extend for the ball and snatch it with his hands. Has held for placements. Improving blocker. Gets into blocks quickly and can work his feet. Versatile. Can play H-back or tight end, fill in as a big wide receiver or fullback and throw the ball.

Negatives: Has not started or played that much. Has had some injury problems. Is more of a position and finesse type of blocker than a power blocker. Could be more physical at times.

Summary: Will have a bright future if he can continue to improve and avoid injury. May be a first-day pick if he works out well.

i like this move & think gaffney could be the #2 this season...especially since i have doubts about pinkston coming back.
he has a chance to flourish now that he's out of that horrid texans' offense.
lemonade was a popular drink and it still is

PhillyPhreak54

This is a very nice, solid signing. He got a one year deal to prove himself. That's fine with me. Let him prove he's worth a big payday.

He was in Houston, a situation where it is hard to succeed because of that OL and QB situation.

I like it. And I believe that IGY called it in the FA Tracker thread too. :yay

Florida receivers = Penn State running backs.

Another genius move by the front office.

if we get walker. then hes the four behind him, reggie and stinkston. gaffney is more like a 3, and thats why he would be a great 4.

We have NO idea what Pinkston is going to come back as with that injury. We have no idea how much Gaffney could flourish in an offense that can actually do something.

Maybe he'll turn out to be the Larry Johnson of Florida WR's.  Hey, one of them has to pan out, right?
