I was going to rip you a new one if you were in here bitching about your job.  You know, since you get free beer and all.

BTW, it's starting to get pretty cool at night now so you might want to throw a thermal blanket or something in your car........just incase.

I've been holding out on posting this hoping for a possible change in orders but none will be coming......

Right after New Years I came into work, checked my email and had orders to go back to recruiting duty.  I'm not leaving KC, so that's a good thing and I'll be working quite literally right down the street from where I'm at now so it's not like I've got to worry about a new commute either.  I'm really farging pissed about it though because looking back at what it took for me to get back to Kansas City, I think it was higher up's intentions to put me back in recruiting from day 1......they just never told me.

Long story short (yes, this is the "short" version)......

April of 06 I found out that my recruiting office would be closing.  Talked with my monitor (guy who tells me where I can move to) and he said he had a spot in KC at the recruiting headquarters but that i wouldn't be recruiting.  So I accepted it.

A couple weeks later he called me up and told me that the recruiter in KC wanted to stay for an extra year and that he was going to move the recruiter into the job that I was supposed to fill and I would take the recruiter's spot.  I didn't want to do that and neither did the recruiter.  The sick farger actually just wanted to recruit for another year.  So the monitor said fine and left the recruiter where he was and said I would be doing the original job I was told.

2 weeks before I actually left North Crapolina my orders were modified and instead of reporting into the recruiting district headquarters as originally discussed I was directed to report to the same unit I was with in KC before......to do the exact same job.  Fine.

That was in August.  The recruiter down the street is now nearing the end of his 1 year extension and I'm his replacement.  This fargers set me up from the get go and had no intention of not making me this guy's replacement.  Because if the didn't intend on sending me back to recruitiing then they would have found someone during the last 9 farging months to take over that recruiting office.

It's not even the recruiting thing that pisses me off.  I really don't care about recruiting.  It's an easy job and I get paid an extra $450 (tax free) a month to do it.  But my concern is that a 2nd tour on recruiting duty would really hurt me for promotion purposes.  I've already spent close to 3 years out of my actual job field when I recruited the first time and now I'm looking at possibly another 3 years out of my job field to recruit again.  So we're talking about 5-6 years not doing my actual job.  So when I'm getting looked at for promotion within my job field and I'm being compared to my peers, I won't stand a chance because I've got no farging job credibility.  And even if I do get promoted, I'll be a farging recruiter and won't be learning dick about what I'm supposed to be doing in my job field.

The only bright spot is that I've been speaking with the commanding officer of the recruiting district that I'm going to and he's in complete agreement with me on everything.  He doesn't understand why I'm being sent back to recruiting.  Typically a 2nd tour on recruiting duty is voluntary.  But he's going to work on keeping me there for no more than a year and then moving me into the district headquarters to do the job that I was originally supposed to go do.  So if that happens then I guess it's all good.  Either way I'm still getting farged though.

They Navy has a lifetime shore duty recruiter billet, basically they convert you to NC (Career Counselor) and you make rank accordingly. Some of the biggest dipshteins I've ever known made E-7 that way.

Sgt PSN

There's the same option for the Marines too called Career Recruiter.  The funny thing about it is there's a buddy of mine who I've known for about 8 years now and he finished up his tour on recruiting duty about the same time I did and we're both here in KC now at the same unit.  He wants to be a career recruiter but you need to be a Gunny (E-7) to apply and he's currently an E-6.  But he is requesting to go over and fill the same spot I'm being sent to and hoping that he gets promoted to Gunny in the next couple years (which he will) so he can then apply to be a career recruiter.  His request has already been denied twice by the monitor section.

It's farging rediculous.

thats been the #1 story here for the last 24 hours or so.  I don't see the big outrage.  9 whole people out of 1000s were fired for looking at porn.  big whoop.

Didn't you (FF) promise us that you wouldn't be posting anymore on account of a new job or some shtein?

Yeah, it turns out that cutting out AIM and other work-at-home distractions allowed me to be significantly more productive without sacrificing :CF.  Thanks for remembering, though.

BTW, glad I don't work here anymore.

Yeah, that's some shaddy shtein they're doing.  And so is this:

QuoteIBM also plans to lobby state and federal officials for changes to employment legislation that would allow high-tech companies to escape current overtime thresholds, according to the documents. "IBM believes aspects of the wage and hour laws have not kept pace with the realities of the modern workforce.

My guess is what it really comes down to is employees not effectively utilizing their time at work, not that there's so much work to do it can't be done in a 40 hour week.  People spend more time farging off at work on the internet (self included) and taking smoke breaks (self included) then they actually do working (self sometimes included).

On days that I work late, it's hardly ever because I've got too much work to get done.  Usually it's because I didn't manage my time properly during working hours (ie: I spent too much time farging off on the internet and outside in the smoking area).

Of course, I'm salary so it really doesn't matter whether I work all day or not.  1st and 15th of every month I'm getting paid regardless.  Hourly wages are for suckas.

IBM uses utilization targets, which aren't directly visible to employees, as a primary way to grade their people.  In technology, the target is usually over 100%, and the top workers usually come in around 110% or more.  This means you have to average that much time every week, including IBM-designated holidays and personal vacation.  And even if you come in at, say, 104%... you're not guaranteed anything as others in your pay band and organization might have done better.

Bums.

Oh, and tying in with Sarge's post, that is true... and clearly was somewhat true of me when I was working there.  They encourage people to work more hours but offer little motivation to actually do anything productive during them... so you get a lot of people that do very little work per hour.  Now, it's only going to be worse.
