I hear that.

Do you think there will be some type of roster bonus in there, if true? 6 years seems a lot for a 29 year old. For the Eagles way of doing things, specifically.

6 years is for the SB proration purposes.

Banner will set it up good, I'm sure.

Once bitten twice shy...take it for what its worth...EAGLES SIGN HOWARD

Just as many people expected, the Eagles' first significant move of the free-agent season was signing a player away from the New Orleans Saints.

No, they didn't get center LeCharles Bentley, but a league source said that veteran defensive end Darren Howard agreed to a six-year deal with the Eagles late last night after spending the day in Philadelphia.

Details, other than the length of the contract, were not immediately available.

Gary Wichard, the agent for Howard, would not confirm the agreement but said he was working on a deal with the team.
Howard, who spent the day with head coach Andy Reid, defensive coordinator Jim Johnson and new defensive line coach Pete Jenkins, was impressed by what he saw and heard during his visit.
"I like the situation," the veteran defensive end said. "I like the organization, I like the people and the facilities are outstanding."

That's a nice signing, congratulations. I agree with PP54, he'll probably never see that 6th year. The signing bonus will be spread over the first 5, then that 6th year will probably be a nice big base salary that will never leave Lurie's wallet.

I'm glad for you Eagles fans to finally have something noteworthy happen.  All we've done is resign a 2nd round waste, sign a Charlie Weis lookalike for the OL whose name I can't remember yet, watch a kicker we could've used walk away to sign elsewhere, and talk to a fashion model/OLB who we haven't signed.

If I lived for this stuff like some people do, I'd be bored to tears at this point. I'm pretty close as it is.

Can't wait to see this on PE.com.

Excellent move.

You'll be getting TO soon though, bro. That'll certainly bring some entertainment for ya. Especially when he starts dissin' the Eagles at his PC. Which we know he'll do. :D

Agreed. I love Howard. I also love the DE rotation now. Especially if they can grab a guy in the draft too. Not a 1st or 2nd rounder but someone deep who is a solid player.

So...will Kearse go back to #90 now?

Confirmed on ESPN

Free agent defensive end Darren Howard agreed to a six-year, $30.5 million deal Sunday night with the Philadelphia Eagles. Included in the deal was a $9.5 million signing bonus and a $1 million roster bonus, topping guarantees offered by his team of six years, the New Orleans Saints.

So what year do you think they put that roster bonus in?

PhillyPhreak54

This year. The Eagles do that a lot.

He'll get 10.5 up front but 9.5 of it will be prorated

The BIGSTUD

How many of those years do you think he'll be wearing green?

I find it hard to believe all 6 years.

He's 29

So. that means if they cut him with one year to go, they'll have a year of dead money? SBs can only be prorated for 5 years.

PhillyPhreak54

Well, the SB propration would end after 5 years, right? So the SB would be off the books after Year 5. The only money left on the books in Year 6 would be his base salary. And if cut they wouldn't owe anything.

The BIGSTUD

Something interesting.
