Darren Howard could be done. He didn't have a great year last year

i tend to agree with this...in a normal FA year howard might be a nice pick up...this year hes a back up type signing or even a last resort depending on the money he wants

In Spew's blog it mentions how Pete Prisco thinks that Bentley will sign quickly with Jax at the start of FA.

Well said.  I especially agree with your second point.

unless the Eagles still plan on Andrews being their RT of the future
I don't get this.  I think they really might see him as their future RT and I just don't get it.  He's just not the right body type.  Arms are too short, feet too slow..I worry about this idea.

Sounds good to me.

He'll be the starter by then, kicking ass and taking names.  Book it.

Quote from: FFatPatt on March 03, 2006, 10:30:06 AMif Andrews is still not ready and doesn't have the proper physique to move out there.

Again, if they add a guy like Bentley, I highly doubt you see them signing anyone else on the OL - even Runyan.
If?  He'll NEVER be "ready," because he's not a Tackle!!  Also, I'm sure you're right about Runyan, sadly.

Bentley denying the Brookover report...for now

Is Bentley ready to fly out of N.O.?
Saints center denies he's plans to sign with Philly on Monday
Saturday, March 04, 2006
By Mike Triplett
Saints center LeCharles Bentley denied Friday a Philadelphia newspaper report that he is planning to sign with the Eagles as soon as free agency begins Monday. But whether he winds up in Philadelphia or not, Bentley will clearly move on after four years with the Saints.

Bentley has maintained throughout this offseason that he was disappointed the Saints did not sign him to a long-term contract extension before he became a free agent. Earlier this week, he made his strongest comment yet, telling CBSSportsline that, "I would rather sit out a season than play for the Saints again."

Bentley, 26, said last week that things didn't end on a sour note in New Orleans, and that he enjoyed his four years with the Saints. But he said Thursday night that he is ready to move on.

"It was just a lot of things that I didn't like," Bentley told The Times-Picayune. "But in any relationship, nothing goes 100 percent right all the time.

"I meant what I said last week, and I meant what I said (in the CBS report)."

Bentley had a brief war of words through the media with teammate Joe Horn after the season, in which he criticized the star receiver for speaking on his behalf about his contract status.

Then, in the CBSSportsline interview, Bentley was told that some members of the team and organization were upset with him for missing the last two games of the 2005 season with an elbow injury, suggesting he was protecting himself for free agency.

"That's why they're the Saints," Bentley responded. "That isn't true."

Bentley said that interview was the first time he had heard about any such accusations, but he seemed upset by them.

He said, "If anyone in that organization has any questions about whether I gave everything I had while I was there, then they can go to hell."

The two-time Pro Bowl center is one of the NFL's hottest free agent commodities. The Eagles are expected to be one his top suitors.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, a source close to Bentley said he was prepared to sign with the Eagles on Friday before the start of free agency was delayed by three days.

Bentley, however, denied that report and had no further comment about his immediate plans.

Whoa. I wonder why he would deny the report outright. It's not like he gives a farg what the Saints think of him. Wonder if he has spiked the "possible problem child" meter in anyone's mind in the FO. Hope not.

I guess he is smart to deny it for now so he doesnt implicate himself in any sort of tampering claim.  If your gonna play it, you might as well play it smart.

ice grillin you

he cant tamper himself

hopefully what it is is that the birds and/or his agent told him to play it cool as far as tampering shtein goes

If I'm him, I make sure there's some doubt so that the Eagles don't pare back their offer, thinking he really wants to be in Philly, so they can get away with it.  If he knows the Eagles are going to come calling right away, and he knows he wants to be in Philly really bad, the best way for him to make sure his wallet gets really fat is to play it cool.

Hopefully he is just playing it cool. That would suck if these Bentley rumors are false.
Calling it right on the $ since day one.

Adam Schefter was on Total Access tonight and confirmed that Bentley was the Birds main target for the offensive line, but he said the indications were that the Birds second big target, was another Saint, Darren Howard. Thoughts?
The Eagles sign Bentley, Howard (who can play DE and DT) in FA and draft Bunkley (if Davis is gone) at 14... anyone in the room with me at the time runs the risk of being decapitated.   :yay

I'd like to think that's the case.  No matter how close it may seem to be... until FA officially opens, the deal could still fall through.  I'd think the Eagles have Bentley keeping it real hush, hush on things so he doesn't tip their hand... leaving the door open not only to tampering issues, but leaving the door open for another team to swoop in and try to pry him away from the Eagles.

Good thinking. I said the same thing either in this topic or another one. We'd have a sick d-line if that happened.

But then I'd be hoping Vernon Davis goes early so I wouldn't have to say "what if..."
