I appologize for ever starting this thread.

it's eerily similar to the Krispy Kreme vs. Dunkin Donuts thread.  Utterly pointless.

thanks MURP.

PG I got the quote, I just didn't want this thread to get too far off topic. That would have been disasterous.

Some of the best places I've ever eaten (diners) were on Long Island.

I hate saying that something in NY is good, but damn....well, maybe it was because it was 2am and I was in college and anything tasted good at 2am?  :paranoid

The main problem with NY diners is: No one has ever heard of porkroll or scrapple.
Alert, alert. Look well at the rainbow. The fish will be running very soon.

Phanatic

Scrapple's OK but I never got the pork roll thing.

That's one menu item that the shteinkickers down south can usually get right.

There's a place here in town that makes corned beef hash that equals any I've had in Jersey/PA.

For whatever reason, though, no one can seem to get creamed chip beef right.  It's either too thick and lumpy or it's too watery.

BTW: Henny's in Stone Harbor, NJ makes the best SOS I've ever had.  :drool

I like grits.

I know, I'm weird.

I like all hot cereal...oatmeal, grits, Cream of Wheat.

Taylor Pork Roll on Ocean City boardwalk was the shtein.  We'd surf @ 6th street all morning and then head up to the pork roll stand for about 1/2 dozen of those sammy's.

I like grits.

The cheese grits they make down here is edible.

The other stuff... not so much.

rjs246

Grits are the shtein. Slather them in butter and you've got yourself a meal at any time of day.

I had a spicy Shrimp and Grits thing once that was great.  I'm not a huge fan of plain grits, but as a staple of a recipe they're good.

Cream of Wheat is good, I keep a box of it in my desk.
