i've been with netflix for years but just switched over to BB this week because of the free store rentals.  netflix comes about a day earlier for me than BB, but with three movies sitting around it's not like that day matters.  this sounds like an even better deal.

It's a brilliant strategy by Blockbuster to get more schlubs in the store to purchase the candy, soda, and $22 DVD's.  It seems everytime im in there some mom with 4 loud mouthed kids is spending $40 on a couple rentals and a trashbag full of candy.

Yeah, we're pretty much worst-case scenario for them.  Since we switched from Netflix, we've literally purchased ONE used DVD, ONE extra rental, and zero candy/soda/etc.  Cheap.  bastiches.

Exactly, and if there's a movie coming out, we can show up on Tuesday and be basically guaranteed to get it.  And the new deal is definitely better than the previous one, IMO.

You gotta love it when a business casts aside their established customers to make room for someone else's moolah.

DirecTV is notorious for that.  They're always running promotions for new subscribers which give them cheaper rates than current users.  When I wanted to add a reciever to another room in my house they were wanting to charge me some outrageous figure like $50-$100, plus the cost of the new reciever.  Then a couple of weeks later I saw them advertising (for new subscribers) 4 free recievers, set up and installation.  And all you had to do was sign up for Total Choice Premier which is just basic cable.  No HBO, Showtime or Skinemax.

I called them up and bitched about how I'd been a subscriber for 5 years and can't even get them to add a single reciever for me but they'll give a new customer 4 of them.  After a few minutes or arguing I got my free reciever.

I understand that businesses need to run specials to attract new customers.  That's the whole point.  But at the same time, if they'd like to keep their existing customers it would be nice for them to throw a promotion our way every now and then too.

Dish Network was worse. Not only wouldn't they cave in and give me the freebie, after I dumped them they made sure to let me know that I could not sign on as a new customer to get the deal. So Direct TV's been getting my money.

Yep, pretty cool... if you're into that.

id be into it just to get more Cash out of blockbuster... since game rentals are like $9.  ridiculous.

Damn- that's the first I heard about the Netflix "throttling" crap. I was wondering why it seemed like in the times I was having a quick turnaround with them it would come to a screeching halt. All of a sudden movies are coming from Texas, Colorado, etc... when they normally come from Flushing and Melville.

I figured I was just being paranoid. That maybe they just shipped from wherever it was available. Grrr...

Just goes to show that even the paranoid are right sometimes.

Bastids!
Maybe the voices aren't real, but, they've got some pretty good ideas...

And PS- Those of you who like games, there's always Gamefly. Same system as NF and BB, but, you only get two a month I think.

that'll be me in a day or two also.  we just switched from netflix to bb and last night for the first time we took one to the store and exchanged it for a new one.  apparently on top of that they send the next one out in the queue right away.

i'm assuming this is the reason you have 4 also.

PoopyfaceMcGee

I just switched back to Netflix.  I used to return online movies and store movies and also pick up new releases every Tuesday.  But, they changed their week of lenience to a firm 3 day rental policy.  Price of gas + having to go twice a week to really use the in-store stuff = fail.

We're starting on the 1 out at a time plan with unlimited online movies for $8.99.  You all care.
