Aren't the Eagles, as a franchise, one of the biggest money-makers in the league? Isn't it likely that the Eagles could become one of the 'big spenders' in the NFL if the cap goes away on a permanent/semi-permanent basis?

Imagine that, the abililty to spend big without a massive roster purge...
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Let them eat bootstraps.

what happens if 08 is uncapped and then 09 a new deal is struck with a cap that will obviously be far under what many teams have spent...how will that work

If the cap goes bye-bye it will never be back. Once they get that taste of uncapped money then they'll never approve it (NFLPA) and some owners might not approve it either (Snyder, Jones, etc)

If they don't have a CBA by the end of 2006 then they'll have 2007 uncapped and in 2008 there will be a lockout/strike.

same thing as last time when the cap was initially put in. from what i remember, they agreed on a cap, but it was a season or two before it was the hard cap.

you can have some contracts grandfathered in.

Actually, Upshaw has said they'll dissolve the union to prevent a lockout.  I honestly have no idea how labor processes work, but I know I've read that somewhere.
Anyone but Reid.

i dont believe anything anyone says right now...imo even if 07 is uncapped there will still be a cap again at some point and probably in 08

They won't need a union if the average player is getting paid well.
It sounds like a good sound byte, though, not something that will actually happen.  Unions don't just phase themselves out, and most owners want nothing to do with an uncapped NFL.
I still think a deal will get done.  Should be interesting if it doesn't.  Lots of teams could be releasing players to get under the cap, whatever it ends up being.

Just read this on hogs.net...LMFAO

QuoteSad and unfortunate??? This could be great! Lets face it, even if we look at the most grim outlook for next year, no scenario has mentioned us cutting any cornerstones or key buidling blocks. Sorry, but Walt Harris, Bowen, Raymer, and Hall don't exactly bring up those thoughts in my mind. And no, I find it hard to believe that no new CBA will bring about the end of the NFL for all eternity. I just hope that 07 isn't the only uncapped year, and judging from Upshaw's comments it looks like we could hit the jackpot with this one and be without a cap for quite a few years down the road.

:-D

except pg that post is pretty much on point

its possible they pull a free agency crash and burn this year but as i said ill believe it when i see it...i tend to lean towards them not losing anyone of substance...as for any uncapped years that may happen...the skins will just buy the league

as stated previously tho by many as long as they lack at the qb position it doesnt much matter what they do

Did Angelo tell you that?  Then it must be true!

No doubt the Eagles would spend less than the Cowboys and the taterskins, but I also have no doubt they'd be top ten in payroll every year, as they have been even with a cap in place.

ice grillin you

for a team so close to winning it all they consistently have the most space under the cap available...and that is unacceptable...the fans deserve every penny to be spent in order to win a title....if they are 4-12 with a bleak future i could care less what they spend

without a cap they will no doubt get passed in spending by numerous other teams

SunMo

the taterskins have been spending sick money for years, they still haven't proven they know how to sign players that actually can play.  payroll isn't everything, just ask the Phillies.

I don't have time to do the research at work but maybe someone else can help fill in the facts. Outside of last season, haven't the Eagles normally ended up with only $1-2 million in cap space onceĀ  into season? While they normally start the season with the most space, isn't what they have left once all the FA's & extensions have been signed most important?

ice grillin you

you of course still have to make the right decisions but if you dont spend all your money then you dont give yourself the opportunity to make those right decisions...thats all i ask...again only  in the case that youre close to a title
