You know the season's a lost cause when people are starting to complain, with a straight face, that the FO didn't sign Brad Johnson in the off-season.  Seriously, has it come to this?

to some people, the situations appear similar.  the star QB goes out for the year on two teams.  one team's backup comes in, is undefeated in 5 games and takes a season that was a disaster and turns it into a chance at playoffs.  the other team's backup comes in and the season goes from bad to worse, culminating with an embarassing shoutout loss when the opposing team's defense scores the same number of points as the offense did.

that's why it would come up now.  but when you look closer at the situations, there are things that make them different.

Fan, you're missing the point.

We had the same WRs as last year (when we went to the SB) AND added Reggie Brown. Why the hell did they (at the time) need to go get another WR like that?

Wingspan....how many zesty QBs have won SBs? That's my point. Calling Trent Dilfer.

IMO Greg Lewis, Pinston and McMullen are less then prime time even with #81 there.   IMO Lewis over achieved at the end of last year :yay.  Reggie was a great addition in the draft at this point :yay.  My biggest grip is that after 2002 we sent Feeley to Miami :yay) we should have started looking for a quality, proven backup QB as we rely so heavily on the passing game.  They rolled the dice on DMac staying healthy and it worked in 2003 and 2004... ::)

You don't have to look that closely.  This team has played 3 games without McNabb.  The play of the QB cost us one possible chance at a win out of the three (and we probably would have lost last night with McNabb, just not 42-0).  Hell, McMahon even almost brought the team back against the Cowboys after McNabb blew it.  AND, Culpepper was playing like ass anyway, while McNabb was playing OK until the injury really started to take its toll.

Let's put it this way.  This team is 5-7.  If Brad Johnson was signed instead of Mike McMahon, I can say with reasonable confidence that this team would be... 5-7.

The BIGSTUD

The team would be 5-7, but probably wouldn't lose 42-0 with a QB like Brad Johnson. I'm not saying I'm mad they didn't sign Brad Johnson, but this team could use a veteran with experience who can play to backup McNabb. Detmer is a veteran with experience who can't play.
Calling it right on the $ since day one.
Just pointing laughing, and living it up while watching the Miami Heat stink it up.

I agree that the backup QB situation is one which should be addressed in the off-season.

A.J. Feeley will be available!  Ha!

I think I might have tried to keep Blake.  He'd have to be better than McMahon, right?

We don't know that. We never saw Blake in there with starters (minus TO and Pinkston).

i thought mcmahon would be a decent backup when they signed him.

i was wrong. :paranoid

but somebody pointed out that he looks like zoolander doing his blue steel pose...so that's pretty cool.

Pretty Mike.

I agree with hunt...I thought McMahon would be a perfect backup because of his mobility.

I wonder if the fact that McMahon's eyes are freakishly close together hurts his field vision.

MadMarchHare

I thought he'd be a perfect backup cause we wouldn't need him.
