PLANO – "It's my pipe," says the man sitting across the table. "All you have to do is check it for fingerprints. Mine have to be all over it."

It's a favorite pipe, he adds, a sheepish smile crossing his face. "My little bowl pipe. We go back awhile."

Sitting alongside the man late Thursday night in a back booth of a restaurant is his friend Michael Irvin.

Mr. Irvin has arranged the exclusive interview with a Dallas Morning News reporter. There is only one ground rule for the meeting. The man provides his full name and date of birth to The News so that his identity can be confirmed but asks that his full name not be printed. The News is identifying him by his nickname, "T."

For a week, Mr. Irvin has been telling the world that the drug pipe found in his car when he was pulled over for speeding – just across the Dallas North Tollway from the restaurant – belonged to someone else.
