do you eagles fans w/o philly ties root for all the philly teams or just the eagles?
Pretty much just the Eagles.

Otherwise... Knicks and I guess the Mets and Rangers... although I really couldn't care less about baseball or hockey.

Eagles, Flyers, White Sox, whichever NBA has a Brit playing for them. Bulls currently.

PhillyFan

I'd put fans into four categories.  Category One would be those who grew up in the area/region of a particular team or went to the team's school (for college purposes).  Category Two are those who lived in a household with parents who were huge fans of a particular team, those who have changed areas/regions and now root for the team in their new area/region, and those who have a personal relationship with someone on the team.  Category Three are those who picked a team to root for because of some other reason (although I would cede that their may be other significant connections that I'm not thinking of off the top of my head that could get you into Category Two), but have still stood by that team from the moment they've picked them and there has been some minimum time period that has passed (let's say 10 years).  Category Four are all the rest, like those that change teams every few years.

Category One fans are the most legitimate fans.  It's like family - you're born into your family, you can't pick your parents or brothers and sisters.  You don't pick where you grow up.  You do pick where you go to school, but that's still the most legitimate connection to a college team that you can have.  I can certainly understand the connection for Category two fans, and their support for a team is legitimate, but it's just not quite as legitimate as the "blood ties" of Category One fans.  Category Three fans aren't really legitimate, but they are still good fans.  Category Four fans aren't legitimate and aren't usually aren't really good fans.

I am sorry Phillyfan,

but what gives YOU the right to determine that "fan type three" is NOT a real, legitimate fan, fan ?! You could indeed form categories based on why they are fan, but it is not too hard to point out flaws/bad fans in the two categories you call "legit." What, IMHO would should only determine who is a good fan or not is if/once they have chosen a team have stuck with it, with the only allowable lapse IMHO being if your hometown suddenly gets its own team.

By the way, I would fall in category three.... however since I found out that the games are being radio broadcast over the net I have missed only 10% of the games, and listened to roughly 75% (if not more) of the prime time games (SaNF, SuNF and MNF), despite kick-off being at 03:00 and the games not being over before 06:00; and the only ones I have missed I missed because I had important appointments/obligations (like college) the next morning.

With Timmy, one of three things is going to happen. Somebody is going to get hurt - it's either going to be him, an opponent, or one of our players.

Don Ho

I am assuming a category 5 would be 'varayder" or "Truck Rathman".

The fact you are listening at 3:00 AM makes you a category one A+ in my book!

ice grillin you

the bottom line is if you arent from philly you just dont have the same connection...i root way more for philly than i do for the eagles...theres just something more special about rooting with the city youre from...being a part of that is much bigger than the game

doesnt mean youre not a real fan but if you were born and raised in billings montana youre mos def on a lower level as a fan...and thats real talk

Rome

Nonsense.  Geography has nothing to do with being a fan.

Of course, I was born 10 minutes outside the city and spent the first 26 years of my life there so I'm a bigger/better/keweler fan than all of you queers.
